She observed him carefully as he walked to the door. She knew that time was running out but suppressed the urge to run behind him and engulf him in a bear hug. She took a deep breath and started counting in reverse under her breath.
"Ten, nine, eight, seven..."
She couldn't let him go. She wanted to hang on to him and vent her feelings out. The days she had spent with him were the best she had ever had. She had fallen for him the moment they met. Her love for him intensified when she got to know him. Her life had always been a walk on the thorns. But walking with him she had never felt the pain. He had been her savior in times of danger and he had given his shoulder to lean on in times of misery. He always put a special effort to see her smile.
Her heart would always flutter and her knees would become wobbly when he was near. His sweet smile and his twinkling eyes would create a thousand butterflies inside her. Just the mere thought of him would send shivers down her spine. She had always yearned for his warm comforting hugs and loving kisses. She never confessed her love as the fear of losing him scared her, though she knew he loved her too. She decided to confess her love and called him after contemplating for long hours. They planned to meet at their favorite restaurant.
Nervousness was at its peak as she struggled hard to control her trembling hands. She watched him as he entered the room looking dashing in his suit. An awkward silence lingered in the air as they had their dinner. Neither of them spoke. Mustering up some courage she confessed her love for him while he sat there with blank expression. The usual smile he bore went missing. Without uttering a word, he rose up from his chair and left. Her heart broke into a million pieces and she closed her eyes not to let the tears spill down. She heard the door clicking open and resumed her counting to calm her nerves.
"Six, five, four, three, two, one........"
BOOM!!!!!!
She heard the bursting sound of party poppers and on her fell the flying color papers. She opened her eyes and was stunned by the scene in front of her. She saw the love of her life standing in front of her with his sweet smile plastered on his face. Her heart pounded with every step he took towards her. He handed her favorite bouquet of white roses with two red roses that stood at the center. Going on his knees, he took out a dazzling ring from his pocket and asked the most beautiful words she had ever heard.
"I love you, gorgeous. Will you be my better half?"
Her happiness knew no bounds. Tears streamed down her eyes while her lips broke into a wide grin. She hugged him tight and nodding a big yes, she said those magical words again.
"I love you too."
And a happily ever after fairytale unfolded in their lives.
