Frank Memorial Hospital,

Room : 424

"It's a girl" the nurse exclaimed, showing her pearly whites in contrast with her dark skin while her chubby hands were hanging the baby, upside down. Taking the baby to the wash room, she cleaned the amniotic fluid from the mouth and skin before handing over the baby to her expectantly waiting, exhausted mother.

Room : 412

"The baby is not curling... Get me the anesthetist... Its not gonna be normal... We need to operate him out..." The doctor was ordering the nurses with different things and decided it was going to be a Cesarean section, after all, the mother was in labour pain for almost fourteen hours.

11.39 PM

"Here you go, pretty baby boy," the nurse handed over the baby to his father, grinning from ear to ear, after wiping him thoroughly.

"She'll be alright. Would you mind waiting outside a while though?," She said to the father who was watching his wife, reverently.

06.00 AM

Night duty nurses gathered in the nursery wing of the hospital, laughing their head out, with each sound the babies made. The head nurse rushed to the nursery, jolted from her trance state, hearing the echoing laughter.

"What is happening here? Is this a fish market or something?," She asked, rubbing her eyes with the keel of her hands, her dark hair sticking at odd angles.

"Take a look for yourself..." A nurse nurtured courage against her boss while others fell into deep silence, hanging their heads in guilt, as if they had done something really bad.

The chart indicated they were newborns from yesterday night, 412 and 424, sharing their warmer for the eight hour schedule. The weird sound they made, nibbling on one another's reachable parts while fighting, bashing and darting with hands and legs, crying, smiling like they were playing such a game, melted even the stiff shoulders of the head nurse and she even giggled into her hands, covering the mouth.

"They would make one hell of a pair," someone supplied, between the babies rattles and everyone laughed out loud, in unison.

September 2003

"Erik I'll beat you if you beat her," he stood before her, his rival in everything possible.

Her elbow was scratched on the little stones, peeling the skin showing the red streaks under when Erik shoved her on the ground before he came to the rescue.

"Move away Louis... She is your enemy," Erik was a big boy and two years senior but Louis wouldn't budge from his stance and stood rooted before her.

"Only I can beat her... I won't let you," he said sternly, spreading his hands like he was about to do karate or something.

Erik beat him black and blue, leaving them on ground, he stride away, laughing with the missing teeth.

"Are you okay?," She asked Louis for which he returned a deadly stare and beat her arms.

Wailing, she returned them by kicking him with both booted legs and he started to shout in agony.

"Stop it..." The teacher said breathless by all the running she made, "you'll make one hell of a pair," she muttered under her breath while she saw them holding hands when she took them both to the detention room, for the umpteenth time.

December 2015

"Bloody hell! You broke it... You actually broke it," she said sitting down on the bench, gaping at him, "unbelievable"

Louis smirked at her that threw her off the edge and she darted to finish him off.

"That was your birthday present and you broke it... No you intentionally shattered it to pieces," she shouted grinding her teeth, gathering all the attention of the by passers towards her.

"You dare me to do so," he shouted back.

"That's it... You are a dead meat," she gnashed her teeth while pulling his hair with both the hands.

"See you in your funeral," he did the same.

"Why did you break it? It was MY bloody gift," she barked, emphasizing MY to pour some sense into his stupid mind.

"That's why I broke it," he chuckled.

"You moron"

"Oh my God! Don't you both have anything good to do other than fighting?" Erik, who with his girl friend came for a walk in the park, mocked, barging in.

"None of your business," they shouted back in unison.

Shaking his head and laughing out loud, he left.

His hold on her hair loosened a bit and suddenly out of blue, he had that urge, an inexplicable sensation that crept all over his body like it always did whenever they were fighting for a long time and whenever she was out of control. Shoving her towards him, he kissed her, on the lips, passionately that lasted for a few seconds. By then, she calmed down and yearning for more, in the confinement of the bush.

He parted from her, leaving his hands on her waist, smiling like a cine star and her heart did a flip flop.

"I love you," she imparted, opening her wet mouth.

"I love you Betsy," he pecked her lips, "but I don't understand why do we have to fight even after we love each other like hell, for what? Two years? Three years? No... For all our lives?" He asked while she took her position, leaning her head on his chest.

"That's because we are made that way," she said softly, clinging to his chest, hearing his rapidly beating heart.

"You'll make one hell of a pair," Erik's voice came from a distance, as if it was floating in the air from a distant land and they both broke into a heartfelt laughter.
