Strange Stillness

The dark moonlight that shines upon me
It's so still and so cold that I can finally see
Just how cruel this world can be
There lies pain, as far as the eye can see

There is a stillness in the air
And darkness lies everywhere
My breath is the only sound
Except for the silence all around

The trees don't sway
There is no light or day
My heart doesn't beat
I can't feel, from my head to my feet

I can't think
I can't blink
I won't walk
I won't talk

Not during this silence
No cars, no wail of an ambulance
My life pauses and I can now see
All the possibilities of what we can be

I pondered in my own existence
During this very strange stillness
Now I can see
What we're destined to be

~inspired by the gleaming moonlight shinning down on us at night
