Chapter Ten: Dragon

Harry walked to the Great Hall for dinner that night with a strange feeling that something was... Different. He wasn't sure what was different, or why he knew, but he did.

Harry didn't have to wait long to figure out what had changed, as he saw a head of well-kept blonde hair sitting beside his usual place at the Slytherin table. As Harry made his way towards the boy, Draco looked up to meet his questioning gaze. The blonde responded with a smirk. Harry cautiously sat down beside Draco Malfoy, once again confused by the boy's behaviour.

"Potter." The blonde greeted.

"Malfoy." Harry responded apprehensively.

"Care to sit down?"

"Um... Sure. What's going on?"

"Well," Draco started slowly. "Do you know what my name means in Latin, Harry?"

Though Harry was fully aware of what Draco meant in Latin, he sensed the boy had more to say about the subject and let him answer the question instead.

"It means dragon. Seems slightly unsuitable for me, wouldn't you say? Cowardly, and entitled as I am, I wouldn't consider myself the dragon of this school. But you, you, Potter. You're strong, you're brave, you're cunning, and you're grand. You're the real dragon, Potter. You suit my name more than I suit it myself." The blonde finished with a smirk, and that was all Malfoy said before standing up and walking out of the Great Hall, leaving the confused boy gaping after him.

There was no way what Malfoy had said was a coincidence. It was impossible. Somehow, Malfoy had figured out Harry's secret. And who knew what he would do with it. By now, Draco obviously would've realized that Harry hadn't told his Gryffindor friends, and he must know the degree of power he now held over the Golden Boy. On a certain level, Harry was terrified, and yet, something inside of him knew that Draco wouldn't use this against him.

It was later that night Harry found himself rifling desperately through his trunk, searching for a folded up piece of parchment. Finding the object of his desire, the brunette glanced around the dormitory to ensure he was alone. Pulling out his wand, he pressed the tip of the wooden rod to the parchment and whispered 'I solemnly swear that I'm up to no good'. The Marauders' Map appeared on the once blank parchment and Harry's eyes scanned across the pages looking for a certain name. Draco Malfoy.

After finding his name pacing around the dungeons, Harry set off. He had never ventured this deep into the castle before, he wasn't even sure if the map could help him after a while, because the Marauders wouldn't have even gone this far into the dungeons. Harry managed to find his way to the hallway where Malfoy was pacing, but he could see multiple corridors past the one where he stood that were not on the map.

Harry approached Draco quietly, to take away any opportunity of escape. Once Harry was close enough, he reached out a hand and grabbed the blonde's shoulder.

"WH- Potter?!" Malfoy nearly screeched in fear. "How the hell did you find me? And what the hell are you doing here?"

"How do you know?" Harry demanded, ignoring Draco's questions.

"What?"

"How do you know, Malfoy? HOW DO YOU KNOW!" Harry yelled, pushing the blonde against the cold dungeon wall; he was livid.

"Calm, Potter. Calm. You don't want to turn yourself into a dragon in this cramped little hall, do you?"

"How. Did you. Find out?" Harry seethed, pressing his face closer and closer to Malfoy's. The blonde realized that Harry didn't plan on calming down any time soon.

"I... I saw you. Well, I saw a lot of stuff, but like. I saw you as a dragon." He replied quietly, pulling his face away from the brunette.

"How? When?" Harry insisted.

"Well, I sorta followed you to the Room of Requirement once and... Yeah. I was just curious why you were acting so funny! Like, why did you always forget your glasses? Why were your eyes glowing that one night? Why did you look like you were gonna pass out that time when Ron and I were arguing? And why did you get resorted into Slytherin? So, I decided I would try and find out." Malfoy rambled off the list while Harry slowly released his grip on the blonde's shoulders.

"So... It was that obvious?" The brunette asked quietly.

"Well, it's obvious that something's up with you. It's not obvious that you have a massive inheritance that you're trying to hide, though. And maybe it was only super obvious to me. I don't know, but your Gryffindork friends seem to be taking your word." Draco tried his best to calm the boy down, not wanting to make him angry. He preferred to tease him now. Getting the Golden Boy riled up was amusing, but he didn't want to actually upset Harry anymore.

"Great. So what do you want, Malfoy?" Harry sighed, rubbing his face.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, you know my biggest secret, one that nobody else in the entire world knows about, and you've spent the last four years making my life hell. Now you have the ultimate blackmail and total control over me, so, what do you want from me?"

"Nothing, really. Just... Maybe I could help you train and stuff. If you wanted. I could help you get better at being a dragon." Draco suggested quietly, looking away from the questioning green eyes before him.

"You want to help me? You could practically make me your slave and you want to help me be a better dragon? Are you okay?" Harry replied incredulously.

"Yes, I'm fine, thank you. I just think it would be practical to have an alliance with a dragon." Draco stated huffily, not being entirely honest. He did think a dragon ally would come in handy, but that wasn't the main reason he wanted to work with Harry. He just wanted to spend some time with him, but he could never admit that consciously.

"Okay. But if you ever tell anybody about me or about this, I won't hesitate to shove my wand up your arse. Got it?" Harry threatened.

"I understand. Just, out of curiosity, which wand are we talking about, Potter?" The blonde smirked.

"This one." Harry replied with an amused scowl, whacking the blonde on the head with his spell-casting wand.

"Damn." Malfoy mumbled.

"What?"

"What?"

"Okay, well. I'm gonna head to bed now. Catch you later, Malfoy." Harry said awkwardly, turning around and walking back towards the Slytherin dormitories.

"Later, prat." Malfoy replied, grinning widely. Maybe Harry Potter wasn't so weird after all.
