The Cause of the Truth

*Cara's POV*
The weekend is over and I haven't the house since I came home crying. I didn't want to go somewhere and see Veru. I don't know if I can handle seeing her, I might flip out again. A part of me wants to apologize but I really want the truth from her. If she decides to drag me in this kind of mess, I at least deserve the truth, don't I?

I pull up to the school's parking lot and I see Verus car. I quickly hurry into the building to get to my class before anyone sees me. Before I got into my class I felt a grip on my shoulder and a unfamiliar voice say my name. I turn around and it was a middle aged man with bright blue eyes and brown hair
"You are Cara, right?" the man asked
"Yes, yes I am"
"I'm Adam, and I was wondering If you are new in town"
"Um are you a teacher or something?"
"Oh no, I'm a friend of Veru's." Adam chuckled
"Sorry Veru never really mentioned an Adam"
"Of course, well I haven't seen her in ages and I have no way of contacting her. Um do you mind giving her a message for me?"
"I haven't been in contact with Veru as well for a while but i'll try"
"Oh thank you, could you tell her that I am in town-"
I stopped paying attention to what he was saying when I saw Tyler staring at me. He didn't look angry, he just looked scared.
"Uh Cara, did you get that?" adam undistracted me
"Oh yeah, sorry I thought I saw someone I knew?"
"Well, could you tell Veru that her friend Adam is here and I have a little surprise for her?"
"Yeah, no problem"
"Thank you, Cara. I'll see you again" Adam walked away.
He seemed a bit sketchy. How did he know my name?
The first bell rang and I went into class. For the past twenty minutes all we did was read about Abraham Lincoln. I heard a bang in the hallway. It sounded like it came from someone slamming into a locker. A minute after I saw Veru running into the class, she must've been running because she was breathing hard.
"Excuse me miss, this isn't your class. Please get out!" the teacher shouted
Veru ignored her and continued to run towards me
"Cara, you need to come with me now" Veru said grabbing my arm
"What? No, i'm in class! Let go of me!" I tried pulling my arm away from Veru but she just gripped my arm tighter. She had complete control over me now. Veru managed to pull me outside.
"Veru, do you mind telling me what the hell is going on?"
"Cara, get in your car and drive as fast as you can to my house"
"What? Why?
"You wanted the truth didn't you?"
I nodded my head
"Then go, now"
I headed to my car and looked back and Veru was nowhere in sight.
Going ten miles over the speed limit getting pulled over wasn't on my mind. I just really wanted to know what was going on. Is it because of that Adam guy? If so, what does he want and what does he have to do with me?
I pulled up to Veru's house and Tyler, Lilie, Michael, and Jonie ran outside and formed around the house as if they were guarding it.
"Tyler what is going on?" I asked
"Cara, you should stay in the house. Veru will tell you everything" I saw that Tyler's eyes were bright glowing green. Something is seriously going on, and it doesn't seem good.
I ran inside to find Veru sitting on the couch saying something into a necklace But I couldn't make out the words. It sounded Latin.
"Veru?" I stepped closer to her. She didn't respond, she just kept saying a phrase over and over again. I went to go sit next to her but she jolted off the couch
"Cara c'mon, follow me" She led me to the basement.
"Veru, what is going on?"
She picked up an old leather book with symbols on the cover. Her eyes skimmed through the pages of the book and stopped on a page.
"Cara, that guy that came up to you, what did he tell you?"
"He said to give you a message"
"What was the message?"
"He said that your friend Adam is here and he has a surprise for you"
Veru's eyes grew wider in shock
"Cara?"
"Yeah?"
"Did he touch you?"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean did he touch a part of your clothes or anything?"
"He grabbed my shoulder to get my attention, why is it so important?"
Veru help the book up to me
"Cara, Adam isn't like me. He's worse. He'll kill you without hesitation. You see here?" Veru pointed to a picture of some creature with wings. It had long sharp teeth like a saber toothed tiger and pointed ears.
"He's not what I am, he's a Gangrel. Gangrels are vampires. They're Satan's pets. The reason why I asked if he touched you is because when a gangrel touches a human they track them. They bring the whole clan so that when they find the scent from the person they touched they feast on their prey."
"Wait, this can't be true. Satan isn't real. None of that is. You guys are just playing this whole thing to scare me" I started to walk out of the basement until Veru interrupted me
"Then how do you explain me?"
"I don't know, maybe you're just some scientists lab mistake"
"A lab mistake?"
"Veru you know-"
"So you're saying i'm a mistake?"
"No, Veru i'm sorry. I didn't mean to-"
"Forget it"
Veru closed the book and set it back where it was and left the basement. I followed and saw Veru making fists with her hands. She headed out the door.
Outside everyone still guarded the house.
Veru turned to me "if i'm such a mistake, then i want you to prove that i'm wrong by going in the woods and stand right under the tallest tree"
Tyler looked over at us "Veru, are you crazy?"
"Maybe I am, that's why i'm letting Cara find that out"
"Cara don't listen to her. And Veru you know what would happen if they found her!"
"Fine, you're safe for now"
I didn't know I could possibly make Veru this angry. Everyone just stayed quiet for awhile. I heard a blood curdling scream. It didn't sound human either.
"Lilie take Cara" Veru instructed
"Why? Aren't we protecting her?"
"They have Cara's scent. They'll follow you and lead us to them"
"fine, alright Cara ready for a ride?"
"Wait what?"
"Get on my back" I went to get on her back but she moved away
"I meant when i'm on all fours"
"Oh" I responded awkwardly
Lilie shifted into a tiger, but she had different color patterns then Veru. She was orange, black, and white.
She motioned me to get on her back and I did. She was warm and her fur was soft but she wasn't very comfortable to sit on.
"Have fun" said Veru
I gave no response and Lilie started running into the woods and I almost fall off. I swear I felt like I was in some fictional war movie heading into the woods on my trusty tiger.
We were already deep into the woods. We went past the spot Veru first showed me what she looked like.
I heard a branch break from a tree not too far away. I think Lilie heard it too because she started running faster.
