The Beasts

As Above So Below

*Veru's POV*
For three hours i've been sitting the woods. I kept telling myself I didn't kill Cara so i'd calm down. Every time I got calm I just kept thinking about her laying in my arms with blood and cuts all over her. Behind me I heard a branch break. I look back to see what or who it was but I didn't see anything. Looking back at my hands I hear a faint scream from the distance. The sudden scream startled me enough to make me jump up off the ground. Below my feet the earth shook rapidly. Ten feet in front of me began a sink hole. A finger sticks out from the ground. The faint screams became louder the bigger the sink hole got. Standing there I see a body coming out from the ground. The dirt turned into mud so I went to go pull out the body from the ground. Once I pulled the body out everything stopped. I laid the naked body on the ground and tilted the head over so I could see the face. Once I saw who it was I remembered what the scripture said; "Forward the new god crawling through the soil of the earth". Tyler was right. She's one of us now. I grabbed her body and got to the house as fast as I could. I ran up the porch stairs screaming for help. Michael opens the door and let's me in.
"Veru who is that?" He asks
I didn't answer and I ran upstairs to my room. I lay Cara on my bed as careful as I could and stepped away from the bed. Everyone came behind me. Lilie bent over to Cara and checked her pulse.
"She's alive but she's burning up. Jonie get me a cold rag from the kitchen." Lilie commanded
"And Tyler get some blankets." Lilie added
"I'll get a bowl and water for when she wakes up" Michael said running out of the room.
I just stood there, watching Cara on my bed as everyone was rushing to help her. I couldn't believe it, she's alive. The whole time everyone was helping her I just couldn't help but stand in the corner with the look of shock on my face. I didn't know what to do. Not a single word came out of my mouth and when everyone left the room I just kept standing in the corner of my room. A couple hours went by but I never took my eyes off Cara, for some reason I just didn't want to, maybe it was because I don't want to see her get hurt again. Silence filled the room but to me it filled with replays of Cara telling me about her life. Every time I closed my eyes I saw her smile. Tears built up and ran down my face. In that moment I saw her finger move. I looked at her longer to see if she'd wake up. Cara opened her eyes slowly and then quickly went wide eyed. She started screaming in pain and wriggled around. I pinned her arms down to the bed making sure she wouldn't fall off or hurt herself. Lilie came in and quickly followed by the others.
"What happened?" Lilie shouted over Cara's screams
"I don't know, she woke up and started screaming!"
Lilie helped me keep Cara still as I tried comforting her
"Cara, it's ok!"
Michael grabbed the cold wet rag and wiped away Cara's sweat on her head and neck.
"Veru look!" Lilie said pointing to Cara's mouth. Her canine teeth were getting longer and wider
"Oh my god she's shifting" Tyler said looking at Cara's glowing brown eyes
"We have to bring her outside fast" I carried Cara out of the room and ran outside to lay her in front of the house. Tyler and the others followed behind me. On the ground Cara was screaming in pain and all I wished to do was help her. Slowly her body fully transforms from an innocent human to a four legged hairy beast. The growls leave Cara's mouth as the pain goes away. I kneel down to her side and rub her back and she looks at me with the look of distress in her eyes.
"You're ok" I said petting Cara on the head.
She shifted back to her known figure in my arms. She lay naked as I hold her fragile body.
Cara looks up at me "What happened?" her voice was rough. I looked in her small brown eyes and began to tear up from the thought of telling her it was my fault this happened to her.
"We were attacked and you got hurt. You were unconscious so Veru saved you." Tyler said
Cara still looked puzzled
"Let's get some clothes on you and I'll explain everything" I said helping Cara up. I took her to my room and set her on my bed.
"Veru?"
"Yeah?"
"I saw things. When I was unconscious." I continued to gather her clothes but I didn't ask what she saw because I know what it is. Slowly I helped put clothes on Cara.
"I saw my dad" in shock I dropped the shirt I was giving her. You can't see your loved ones when your dead, they no longer remember you.
"He said he did it to himself" Cara added.
"What did he do to himself?" I asked finishing helping Cara put her clothes on.
"He said he killed himself"
"But you were in the car with him, you said it was the truck that killed him"
"I was the person he wanted to die with. He wanted to kill me too"
"Why would he want to do that? Why would he do it when you were just a kid?"
"He had cancer. The doctors said he only had two years left until his heart would give up"
"Oh, i'm so sorry Cara" I reached out to hug her.
"You don't think i'm crazy?"
"No, no I don't" We both let go of each other and she looked at me and started crying. I tried to comfort her as much as I could. We ended up lying next to each other on the bed, not talking, just enjoying each others company. I moved my hand in between us and Cara moved hers on mine and held it. I look at her and she looked at me. She has the most beautiful smile. She began to sit up and lean over to me. Her face was hovering over mine and she leaned her face towards mine and put her lips on my lips. The soft caresses of her lips made me feel as if I were finally safe. She brushed her thumb against my cheek and then Jonie came in the room and interrupted us.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry!" Jonie shouted before shutting the door, "dinner is ready" she added
"We'll be down in a second" I shouted
Me and Cara both laughed and went out of the room to the kitchen.
"Did you guys have fun?" Michael joked
"Shut up" Cara said hitting him in the arm
"Oh the new girl ain't playin" Tyler laughed
We all grabbed our food and sat around the table. Everyone began eating but I noticed Cara looking at her food not even touching any of it. Tyler must have noticed because he stopped eating.
"You're not hungry?" he asked Cara
"It's not really appealing to me."
Everyone slowly stopped eating and looked at me. We all knew exactly why she wasn't eating.
"Lilie and Veru can we talk privately?" Tyler asked us
We went into the living room and Tyler sat on the couch while me and Lilie stood in front of him.
"Veru, she wants blood" he said
"I know, and I will help her"
Lilie put her hand on my shoulder
"She needs it soon or she'll get worst, fast."
"She'll murder someone soon and we can't afford the consequences from that" Tyler added
"Ok I'll take her hunting tomorrow"
"Just give her something tonight to get her through the day tomorrow incase you guys don't get anything"
We headed back into the dining room and I went to Cara
"Come with me" I put my hand out for to grab. I took Cara to my room again and sat her on my bed. I sat next to her and held my arm out.
"Here, you need to eat"
"What?"
"What you are hungry for is blood, mine is good enough for you to last a few hours"
"Veru, I can't"
"Please, just do it. You need to." I put my arm closer to her face. She grabbed my arm and looked at me.
"It's ok" I said trying to comfort her. Cara opened her mouth and bit down on my forearm. It only stung a little. Her fangs dug deep into my flesh and I felt her biting down on my arm like she hasn't eaten for days. After a few minutes she let go and look at me smiling and she had blood around her mouth.
"Hungry?" I laughed
"Sorry"
"Here, you got a little something around your mouth" I wiped the blood off her face with my thumb and licked the remaining blood on my thumb off.
Cara looked at me again but the expression she gave off wasn't happy.
"Veru, what am I?" She asked
"You're one of us now" I gave a small smile
"How?"
I couldn't look her in the face for a minute.
"I did it to save you" I put my hand on her thigh
"What did I need to be saved from?"
I looked down at the ground not answering. Should I tell her? No, I can't. She'd hate me.
"Did I die?" Cara asked
"When we were attacked by the Gangrels Adam tried to take you away and you slipped out of his hands thirty feet from the air and on the way down you broke your neck. I took you home and I used a spell in one of the books from the basement and brought you back to life"
Cara didn't seem sad or happy, she just seemed shocked.
"What do I do now?"
"I don't know yet"
"So if i'm like you guys, what can I do?"
"You mean what kind of abilities do you have?"
"Yeah" she chuckled lightly
"Well, we can hear a conversation from a mile away"
"That'll come in handy" we both laughed
"Also, we have the strength of thirty men"
"That's it?"
"Don't forget we can turn into large cats, and we are immortal"
"Immortal? As in live forever?"
"Yeah"
"Veru, I don't want to live forever"
"You don't have to if you don't want to"
"What do you mean like kill myself?"
"Death is one of the most beautiful things. You either want it or you accept it. To have the chance to live forever, well it's impossible. But in this case you do, and death is now an option. Now the question is, do you crave life or death?"
Cara looked down at her hands and thought about the question for a minute.
"I don't know"
"Then decide when youre ready"
I gave Cara a hug to help her calm down a little so she wouldn't be as stressed.

*Cara's POV*
I don't think I can handle any of this. Can I handle "forever"? The amount of deaths i'd experience. My family would be gone from old age and I'll still be as young as I am. I don't want to think about it anymore. At least Veru is doing the best she can to help me.
"Veru?"
"Yeah?"
I couldn't help but to look at her lips. They are so red, I couldn't help it but I really want to kiss her.
"Can you-can you" I couldn't get any words out of my mouth.
"Can I what?" Quickly I put my lips on hers and pull away.
"Kiss me" I finally got out the words I wanted to say. We looked in each other's eyes and Veru held my face close to hers and kissed me again. As we were softly embrace our lips Veru takes off my shirt. She kisses down my chest and back to my lips. Veru moves me up on the pillows and lays me down. I grip onto Veru's shirt and lifted her arms so I could take it off her. She unbuttons my pants and pulls them off and slowly crawls back up to me and kisses me. Veru traces her finger down my chest to my underwear and rubs my clit over the fabric. I lightly moan and grip on her back. She starts kissing my neck and rubs harder. I felt her breath became heavier. I felt a little sting on my neck. I figured she's giving me a hickey. I felt her biting harder and harder and I tried pushing her off a bit so she'd stop. I look at her eyes and they were pitch black and she quickly tries to bite neck again but I managed to push her off of me.
"Tyler!" I screamed hoping he would come up and help me. Veru jumped ontop of me and tried biting me again and I let out a scream.
"Tyler!" I scream again. I kept pushing Veru off me but she kept trying to bite my neck. I heard the door open and I see Tyler and the others
"Help!" I yelled struggling. Tyler and Michael pull Veru off of me and jonie and Lilie ran to help me.
"What happened?!" jonie asked.
"We were just in the bed about to-you know, and she starts kissing my neck but then she starts biting me. I tried getting her off" I was crying and I held on to Lilie while she looked at my neck.
"You're bleeding. Come with me" Lilie said pulling me out of the room away from Veru.
I could hear Tyler and Michael yell at Veru to calm down from the bathroom.
Lilie gets out an aid kit from under the bathroom sink and takes out a cloth roll and puts some on my neck as Jonie gets water and paper towels to clean up the blood.
"Why would Veru do this?" I asked
"Your scent, It's the same as before. She smelt it on you." Lilie replied
"So? You guys didn't go crazy like that when we first met"
"Because we trained ourselves to control ourselves. Human blood is like candy to us"
"What about me? Am I going to be okay around other people? Like going to school?"
Lilie and Jonie both looked at me with sad eyes.
"No" Jonie said
"What about my grandparents? My mom?"
"Until you know you can handle yourself it's best you don't see anyone"
I can't do this. I can't just abandon my family. They need me, and I need them. This is all Veru's fault.
