"Peter, would you please just let it go?" Gwen huffed as she led the way through her front door. "He was simply asking me a question on a science formula."
"Mmm, yep...sure," Peter said, sarcastically. "I don't get it Gwen. He was obviously flirting with you and you don't even protest!" He followed his girlfiend through the room.
Rolling her eyes, Gwen picked up the phone, "I'm ordering in for dinner tonite. What do you want? Chinese...Mexican.....oooh pizza?"
Any other time Peter would have laughed at the insanely cute way her eyes sparkled in excitement and scooped her up in his arms right then and there, but not this time. Instead, he scoffed, "Oh, come on, Gwen. You're just ignoring what just happened? You have to be joking."
Gwen crossed her arms, "Well no, I'm not. Peter, you promised while my mom and brothers were away you'd stay here with me."
"I was never good at keeping promises," Peter mumbled under his breath.
Gwen threw her arms up in the air, "You've got to be kidding me! You're being all cold towards me because Flash Thompson- of all people- needed help on his homework?!"
"He didn't need help!" Peter exclaimed. "You didn't see the way he was eyeing you! Did you even notice how he tried putting his arm around your shoulders?"
Gwen took a deep breath and tried to remain calm, "Peter, I'm going to say this one more time. Nothing happened."
"Then why were my Spidey-senses tingling?" Peter contradicted.
She scoffed, "They were tingling? Well then there's your proof; something's wrong. I'm fairly certain they shouldn't be tingling, Peter."
"I'm done," Peter said, putting his hands in the air. "I'm just going to go home. Besides, I'm pretty sure you've already invited Flash over."
Gwen narrowed her eyes, "What are you implying, Parker?"
Now when Gwen Stacy adressed you as your last name, that was a pretty good cue to drop everything and pretend the arguement never happened. But Peter couldn't seem to remember.
He snorted, "Oh I think you know what I'm implying."
"Oh I see," Gwen nodded her head. "Yes, I understand. It's quite clear my boyfriend doesn't trust me."
"Yeah well it's hard sometimes," Peter shrugged. "Your supposedly number one at Midtown, Gwen. I thought you just might have realized that sooner."
She crossed her arms, "So, you don't trust me?"
"Well if that's what you're implying then yes."
Gwen looked down, and when she lifted her head back up, Peter was surprised to see tears brimming in her eyes, "Peter, maybe you should go."
"Gwen, I didn't-"
"I want to be alone," Gwen said and wiped the tears from her eyes. "Please leave."
Peter looked at her, and every ounce of his frusteration melted away. He saw the way her lip quivered and how her shoulders began to shake. But he didn't leave her alone like she wanted. And she didn't make him.
He reached forward and pulled her to him. Peter began to softly stoke her hair and he spoke soothingly to her, "Oh, Gwen, please don't cry. I love you so much. I just....I'm terrified of losing you."
But her sobs only seemed to increase. "Please, Gwen." Peter said and kissed her forhead. "I do trust you, it's Flash I don't trust."
"I love you," he spoke soflty into her ear. He pulled back and studied her face as Gwen's tears finally began to dry, "And I'm so sorry. I trust you, Gwen. I trust you."
"I know, Peter," she said softly and smiled, "Let's forget about it. You're still staying, right?"
He grinned and nodded, "Yeah."
"Bug boy?"
"Mmm?"
"Can we order that pizza now?"
Peter grabbed her hand and laughed.
