Cheater? Part One

Gwen Stacy was a smart girl, but even then, it wouldn't take a genius to tell when Peter Parker was lying. It was something about the way he would avert his eyes and stumble- even more than normal- upon his words. Or maybe it was the way he nervously scratched the back of his neck, and mumbled when speaking. Either way, it wasn't too difficult to figure out.

So when he had to cancel their Friday movie night because he claimed Aunt May "was in need of more help", she saw through his lie immediately. However, being the trusting girlfriend she was, Gwen didn't confront him, and instead let the night be cancelled.

This happened a few more times, and Gwen -although suspicious- didn't ask any questions. She loved Peter, and she knew he loved her just as much. If Peter was telling her lies, she knew it wasn't anything drastic. After all, she had no reason to not trust her boyfriend.

That was, until she walked into school on Monday. It hadn't been a particular exciting weekend. Peter had called and said he was catching some criminals, leaving her alone. Sure, she had her three brothers, but...well they were her brothers. Instead she lounged on the couch and watched some Brady Bunch reruns on TV Land. Very fun indeed.

Gwen trudged to her locker and just as she was taking her first books out, Alexia Paine came up beside her, "Ohmygosh, Gwen."

"Huh?" Gwen responded, confused by her look of sympathy.

"You don't know?" Alexia planted her hands on Gwen's shoulder. "I'm sorry to be the one breaking this to you but...."

"But...?" Gwen asked impatiently, tapping her foot.

"But I spotted Peter and Mj at the park this weekend. They seemed to be, you know," she nudged Gwen's shoulder, "close."

"Hold up!" Gwen exclaimed. "You mean Mj as in Mary Jane Watson?"

Alexia nodded her head. "Sorry, Gwen."

Gwen brushed her hand off. It couldn't be true....right? Peter had said he was crime catching all weekend long- he had no reason to lie.

Unless he really was with Mary Jane.

Gwen shook off the thought, but she knew there was only one way to solve this. Ask Peter.

She knew he was undoubtedly in science class- he always seemed to get there before everybody else. Gwen picked up her pace.

"Oh, Peter, please, please tell the truth."

Taking a deep breath, Gwen entered the classroom, and ad expected, Peter was the only one there.

"Hey, Gwenie," Peter said and smiled when she walked in.

"Hey, bug boy," she replied. "Crime catching good this weekend?"

Okay, so maybe not the most subtle move ever.

But Peter only quickly - too quickly- replied, "Um...yeah....great. Caught a few guys actually."

Gwen didn't say anything and looked down.

He couldn't be cheating, he couldn't be cheating, he could-"

"Oh, actually, Gwen?"

She looked up, brightening, but he only said, "Hey, you think you can come over tonight?"

"Sure, Peter, sure," Gwen said glumly and turned around

So that was it. Peter had lied straight to her face, but this time it had been worse. He had been with Mj, while he canceled his plans with her, his girlfriend.

Peter Parker was nothing more than a cheater.

"I need to break up with him tonight...."
