I sighed in annoyance for the fifth time in the last hour. My 'captors' had stood in front of me, bickering, over which way was best to transport me to Maine, where there headquarters resided. I tapped my nails against the arm rest impatiently.
"Why don't we just go by boat?" I added cheerfully. They both looked over at me and while one smiled, the other frowned.
"Yeah, there's a compromise, Derek! You want to travel by land and I want to travel by plane so this solves all of our problems!" The girl with the smile exclaimed and I grinned. The man supposedly named 'Derek' hit the other man upside the head.
"Idiot, of course she wants us to go by boat, she's the water bender! We'll be surrounded by water and completely helpless if she gets enough control of her power to overpower Nathan we're doomed!" He hissed and I nodded along.
"Yeah, in hindsight probably a bad idea. I could totally do that." I affirmed and they both looked at me once more and then turned and continued to argue. I sighed and turned to look outside. We were residing in a large black bus with bullet proof windows. It all just screamed rape and I was hoping that would be enough to get the cops to pull them over when on the roads.
I glared at the guy from earlier. He stood outside the bus with a cell phone to his ear and he seemed to be in a rather deep conversation with someone. I looked between the two bickering men in front of me and the prick outside absorbed in conversation and slowly started to sink in my seat. I sank until my knees hit the floor of the bus and my thighs touched my calves. With a nervous sideways look up at the men and confident they wouldn't see me argueing so fervently I turned around and snuck underneath my seat. I crawled underneath the lines of seats to the back of the bus until I made it to the back door. I bit my lip in frustration.
I could easily open the door, the problem was it was a fire exit only and would sound a pretty loud alarm as soon as I opened it and that would surely capture everyone's attention. I had to decide; try to find a new way out of the bus besides the front exit which they blocked and the prick stood right outside of or risk the alarm and take off running. I looked around and then looked back at the door helplessly. I couldn't see another exit I could escape through and I didn't have time to waste escaping.
With a deep breath, I opened the door. The alarm sounded instantly but I didn't bother to look behind me to see how the men would react. I jumped off the bus, stumbling and falling into the snow but quickly scrambling to my feet and taking off in a run.
"Stop her!" The prick yelled. I had the strong urge to look behind me and stick my tongue out at him childishly but I restrained myself, knowing this wasn't exactly the most appropriate moment. A wall of fire appeared in front of me but I didn't hesitate; I pulled my hood up, puts my arms in front of my face and risked burning alive. I was amazed to find myself on the other side of the flames, completely unscathed but didn't stop running.
I chanced a look behind me and saw the prick with a fire whip surrounding him and I watched in fear as he swung the whip of fire at me. It was a good thing figure skating had taught me how to react quickly and keep going when things got difficult or else I wouldn't have been able to duck and roll and get back to my feet to continue running like I did. I looked in front of me and almost wept with happiness; the lights of a city. Hallelujah.
I pushed my legs harder, knowing I'd have to get further ahead of them in order to make it to the city and hide. My legs burned with strain they weren't used too. If I could only find out how to bend the water. I'd seemed to be able to do it when my emotions were heightened but I terrified right now and it did nothing. I looked behind me and captured a view of the prick bending the fire. I watched how his body moved to control the fire and tried the same hand movements. Nothing. Dammit. I clenched my fists and still nothing. I screeched in annoyance and still, nothing. It was like the snow on the ground was bipolar-one minute it was too my defense but the next it just left me hanging.
