Working Fast (Ch 5)

Nate's POV

The Sun was beaming down on us. At this point Nae has left to get to ROTC. We have been going back and forth with the ball since Nae left but Dilly was still on my mind. "Dilly hasn't texted me since he left and it's been 3 hours now.." I say to Kris. "Well, just call him. I know he answers phone calls a lot better than messages." Kris says serving the ball. I bump the ball back to her." I will if you can beat me in this round." I say smiling at her. "Challenge accepted." She said serving the ball back over. My phone goes off. It took my focus away from hitting the ball, and I slid to hit the ball but missed. "Ha! Now you have to call him to see if anything is wrong or not." Kris says, helping me up. "Yeah probably not, he just messaged me." I replied to her.

From Gay King Bestie:

Nate, hey I'm not coming back. I'll need 3 hours to get dinner ready for tonight. So have fun for the next 3 hours please. Y'all really need it. Love you! XOXO

Okay, sounds amazing, I can't wait for dinner. And this seems like a very huge dinner. I'm gonna feast. Haha See you later.

"Okay, let's go do something, Kris. I've had enough of the beach today." I say grabbing some of our stuff. "Okay, sure. Where do you wanna go?" Kris asked, grabbing the rest of our stuff. "Hm... How about we go downtown or something. We can even go shopping if you'd like." I said as we walked to Dilly's car. "Damn, it's really hot today. Isn't it Nate?" She says putting our stuff in the trunk.

"Yeah, well tomorrow it's supposed to be 20 degrees hotter though. Today's temp is already at 90 degrees. So, yeah, it's gonna be really hot tomorrow." I replied. We both get in the car. I start it and we get hit with freezing air. "Oh my fucking lanta! I needed this!" I said. I pulled out from the parking lot. We headed downtown. All of a sudden, Kris tells me to make a right turn at almost the last second. "Don't do that to me, Kris!" I said catching my breath. "Sorry, I just remembered this place I wanted to try out." She says, hanging her head. We drove down the road for a little while. Kris tells me to stop. She points at a building.

The sign reads: Next Level Kitchen.

"So, this is what you wanted to try?" I asked. "Yeah, it sounds like it's gonna be really good. Can we go in and try it out? Please, Nate, you said we can go downtown or something. Well this is something." Kris says. "Can we try it out tomorrow? Dilly is making us a huge dinner tonight." I stated. "Oh. You promise we can eat here tomorrow?" She asked. "Yes, I promise we will eat here tomorrow. We can even bring Dilly and JJ along as well." I said pulling away from the restaurant. "Okay, that sounds good to me," She says, staring at her phone. "Are you expecting someone to text, Kris?" I asked. "N.. no one really. I texted JJ to see why he came to get Dilly and why Dilly left with him." She replies.

"Don't worry about them, trust me Kris, they're fine." I say heading back towards downtown.

Dilly's POV

I was back in the kitchen grabbing the pan from the oven. "Hey, JJ, guess what." I said happily. "Hm." He replies. "They're done." I said, grabbing a plate. I guess he ran up behind me because when I sat down the plate I grabbed from the cabinet. I was picked up from behind. "Oh my lanta! JJ, put me down!" I playfully yelled. "Why? You know you don't want me to put you down." He says laughing. "I know but put me down, JJ." I said.

"Why don't you want me picking you up?" He asked, confused. "Because I'm hungry. I wanna eat." I said laughing. JJ puts me down and I hand him his plate of caramel covered brownies topped with oreos. "Oh my lanta! Dilly, you're truly the best boyfriend ever." JJ says kissing me. "Stop it babe." I said blushing. "What? it's true baby! Don't cover that beautiful face either. I love it when you blush." He says. "Y...you do?" I was shocked. "Yes, I do. It's the most beautiful thing in the world." JJ says messing up my hair.
