(A/N: I had a hard time describing this on my own, so the first part of this is from the lovely Kurimu-Chan on the Myanimelist forum)

When Titan Eren first appeared, he kept on stepping on that titan over and over, right? Now clear your mind and think- child Eren that saved Mikasa was stabbing that guy over and over again the SAME way. It's a mirror of the real world. Also, how could a child do that, let's be honest? How could a child just stab that man and be all badass all of a sudden? And, when his dad was telling him to stay, Eren was spacing out, right? That's his future titan self going to the past for some weird reason. I can't explain it, but something along those lines.

Also, when Armin was saving Eren from his titan form, he entered the body, and Eren was a kid back in his home with his family IN there, and Armin was telling him to "Come back". Come back from where? His titan body? The PAST? To face reality?And when Eren woke up in the first chapter, what did he say? "Mikasa, why is your hair long again?". Future Eren confusing past kid Mikasa with future short-haired Mikasa because he went to the past.

This theory would explain all of tthe mirroring in the anime, (or they're just reusing old clips) such as when Eren wakes up in the first episode with Mikasa looking over at him, and in episode 21, 22, or 23, when Eren wakes up in the cart with his adoptive sister looking after him.

Again, there is another part to this theory which I'm not quite sure I understand, but I will try my best to explain it.

With the title of the first chaper/episode, being, "(To you) 2,000 Years In The Future", that leaves a lot of opportunities open for possible theories.
