The Color Of Fate

Chapter 9

-Obi-

I woke with the sunrise, laying in the soft patch of grass that I had fallen asleep in the night before. The sun was just leaking through the trees of the forest with a chilly breeze running along the rays.

I stood up, feeling a pinch of pain as I moved to fast. I looked at the wound on my shoulder seeing it was tinted with a pale red. Dammit.

"Obi?" Shirayuki asked, "You shouldn't be moving around so much."

"I'm fine, it's only a cut."

She looked at me with a stern face, "Come on, lets change out the bandages."

She walked over to a log and sat down. I sat next to her, wincing as she took off the bandages.

"Why didn't you call out for help?" She asked, not looking me in the eyes.

"You would have come running if you'd heard it." I frowned slightly, thinking about what could have happened.

"Of course I would have-"

"You would have gotten hurt and I would have failed my job. To protect you." I laughed, "I was scared out of my mind."

"Were you scared that they were going to kill you?"

I shook my head slightly, "I'm not scared of death."

She started dabbing the cut, cleaning it out. "Then why were you scared?"

I looked up at the colorful sky, "I can't completely awnser that to myself right now. Don't worry about it though."

"When you figure it out, I'd better be the first one you tell. Ok?" She said smiling at me. I nodded smiling back.

"Alright."

She began putting on the bandages, pulling them tight to my skin. It hurt, but I didn't let her know that. Once she finished Kiki and Mitsuhide had woken up.

I stood up, "I'm going to catch us something to eat."

"Obi you should-"

"See ya in a bit!" I jumped into a tree, going from tree to tree, "Guess I'll try to go after that boar from yesterday."

I continue on my way to find it, deciding to go back to where I'd almost been taken captive the night before. Everything was gone, they must've cleaned up and left already. I sighed out of relief internally, continuing to go look for  the boar. I saw it munching around on some fallen fruits, next to three mini versions of itself.

"Guess no boar." I looked around for tracks of other animals, only seeing those of deer, boar and rodents. I shrugged, going to the small pond to catch some fish. Once i was done I started on my way back to camp, occasionally startling a squirrel or rabbit.

I walked back into the camp casually, meeting the three glares of my companions.

"What?"

Mitsuhide and Kiki sighed while Shirayuki and Zen scolded me about moving around.

Soon after the hour long lecture, we were back on the road again. To get to where Shirayuki was going was still a ways away. We made it to the next town a few hours later, picking up another horse for me to ride on.

"Hey Shirayuki, still want to learn to ride a horse?" I asked just before we mounted up.

She heasitated, thinking for a minute, then said, "Yeah!"

I helped her onto the horse first, then got on behind her, handing her the reigns.

(I've never ridden a horse before O-O)

I glanced back at Obi and Shirayuki, seeing that the one leading the horse.

Obi caught my gaze, smiling while rubbing the back of his head.

"She's a natural Master!" He laughed. Shirayuki looked up from concentrating, smiling at me.

I smiled back, turning to face forward while my cheeks burnt red. Also feeling the gazes of my other two companions as mitsuhide smiled and Kiki smirked.

This is gonna take forever.
