The next few days are unbelievably ordinary. I make my rounds, as always, checking on the folks of the pack. Betty, the oldest woman of the pack, is doing wonderfully as always. I stayed with her for about an hour as she made tea and I cleaned up. Ever since her mate passed away she's been rather sad. I visit her usually twice a day and share tea with her. She always has the best tea.
Martha, who just had a baby boy whose name is Greg, is recovering well. She just got back home from the hospital not too long ago. I helped take care of Greg while she relaxed and I even made some of her favourite cookies, white chocolate macadamia, because I know having a baby can be rough on the parents. Her husband, Bradley, is always busy since he's usually patrolling the boarder of the pack to ensure our safety. I made sure to bring his favourite pie as well, apple cinnamon. The pack is very grateful for the patrollers who take their job so seriously and take such long times away from their family.
Violet, one of my favourites that I visit, has been rather sick lately. I'm not sure what exactly is wrong, though, but I wonder if I can heal sicknesses. I've never tried before but perhaps when I see her I'll try just to see. Violet is around the same age as my mother, only forty, and it pains me to see her like this. Her usual bright amber eyes have lost their shine they've always had. Ever her hair has become duller than usual, her once kinky curls have fallen slightly. Her dark skin has turned paler than I've ever seen it before. I definitely need to at least try to heal her soon.
The teens that always hang out at the Black House are good as usual. I try to talk to all of them individually at some point but sometimes I'm not able to. There are a few of them who are going through tough times, Alex, Emily, and Jacob. I always make sure to see how they're doing.
After checking on everyone I make my way to the gym. At least one hour every night, no matter how tired I am. Being my best has always been important to me and it always will be. The past few days I haven't been able to see Ryan too often. With the time for him to be alpha coming so soon he's had to train extra hard. I don't blame him for not hanging out with me.
Draken walks into my room, still half asleep seeing as it's only six in the morning, and lays next to me. I yank the covers from under him so I can put them on top of his back so he can go back to sleep. He's suffered from nightmares ever since he witnessed a death of a fellow pack member. They were good friends before it happened. A wolf from an enemy pack had killed our patrollers somehow and the first member of the pack he came across was Jordan, the pup that was playing with Draken.
He was the same age as us, no more than seven years old. Draken wasn't old enough to do anything; in fact, he was attacked by the wolf as well. Luckily other pack members had heard the screams of the boys and came to the rescue. I can remember our father dragging me towards them both, shoving me at Draken. They knew Jordan was dead but no one could give up on my brother. I was barely able to save him and nearly killed myself in the process. It took so much energy from me that I was stuck in bed for a couple days before I could even walk. He was able to walk away from that incident but the chunks that were taken out of his stomach and back will forever be reminders of what happened.
He's lucky to be alive.
He sniffs next to me, he's trying to hide the fact he had been crying. As I always do when he lays with me, I gently rub his back until his breathing evens out. I sneak out of my bed and I grab my usual running attire, jogging pants and my fathers old hoodie, as I go to the bathroom. I'm quick to get dressed, brush my teeth, and put my hair up before I head downstairs.
My dad is sitting at the kitchen island, staring intensely at the black marble. "You okay?" I ask quietly, trying not to wake my mother or brother. They're both light sleepers.
