When I wake, I know I am in the doctors office. For some reason they have me hooked up to a heart monitor and oxygen. I take a deep breath through my nose and try to catch scent of who all might be in here.
I can smell Ryan's comforting scent of mint; his favourite body wash. My brother has been here recently, along with our parents, but they must've left not too long ago. Ryan is holding my left hand and is brushing his thumb across the top of my hand.
"Hey," I say quietly, testing out my voice.
I can feel Ryan jump at the sound of my voice and his hand squeezes mine tightly. "Stevie!"
When I attempt to open my eyes I'm blinded by the stupid and unnecessary florescent lights. After a few blinks and scrunching up my face I'm able to fully look around.
Ryan looks rough. He still hasn't shaved which is the longest I've ever seen him go without doing so. Underneath his blue eyes is darker than it's ever been, he hasn't missed a nights sleep since Drakens accident.
"What's been going on?" I ask and I try to sit up but I can feel needles in my arm. Unnecessary.
"You've been out for two days," I nod as I begin to remove everything I'm connected to. There's no need for all of this. "Stevie, quit. You need to wait for the doctor to say you can take those out."
I roll my eyes at him as I continue. "It's fine, I'm fine. Have you checked on Betty? I hope she doesn't think I've forgotten her."
"I called her because I know you'd be mad if I didn't. She came by and brought you come tea not too long ago. It's still hot," he nods to a night stand next to us.
I can't help the smile that comes across my face. "She's the best."
"Violet also came by. Yesterday and today."
"How is she doing?"
"Better than ever," Ryan leans onto the bed and rests on his elbows. "Stevie, you can't heal everyone. You're going to kill yourself. You're lucky you survived when you healed Draken and you're lucky you survived this. Enough is enough."
"I know I'm lucky and I thank the Moon for her gift and my health. She has given this gift to me and if She didn't want me to use it She wouldn't have given it to me."
Ryan closes his eyes and I watch as his jaw clenches and unclenches. "I know, Stevie, just take it easy. I can't lose you."
I bring the hand that he isn't holding up to caress his cheek softly. "I'm more worried about losing you. You're going to be Alpha soon, you'll be going into battle with our pack." I drop my hand and give him a small smile. "I know you've had training but I won't be there to heal you. You'll be out of reach. What am I supposed to do?"
"Don't worry about me. I know I'll have to suffer your wrath in the afterlife if I don't come home and suffer your lecture if I come home injured."
We both chuckle at the truth. "You know I'll always worry, though. You're my best friend."
"And you're mine. That's why you can't be hurting yourself like that."
I sigh. He's not going to give up so I just nod. "Oh, no," my heart drops as realisation comes over me.
"What?"
"We're leaving tomorrow!" I try to sit up too quickly and my vision is clouded by darkness. "I need to get ready!"
"Stevie," Ryan puts his hand on my shoulder so I can't get off the bed. "You're not going."
My eyebrows scrunch together and I frown. "You don't want me to go anymore?"
