If there is one thing I love more than anything it is healing others. The moon has blessed me with an ability to help those around me. My healing ability is the reason I stay after training, healing the folks who just sparred.

In reality, we can heal on our own just fine. People come to me anyways because of the euphoric feeling that is left for both parties. Also, perhaps, because most people in the pack love me. Even on days that I'm not on the training grounds I make sure to check on nearly everyone.

"Stevie," I hear the deep voice of Ryan, my best friend, call for me.

"I'll be right there," I call back. I smile apologetically at Bethany for yelling as I continue to work my hands around her wound. This is a deeper wound than I usually deal with. Her sparring partner clawed too deep into her shoulder, revealing the muscle underneath her flesh.

Healing is something I've known how to do since I was young. Ryan had fallen off of the swing and scrapped his knee, leaving a rather large gash. For some reason I felt the urge to reach out to the wound and fix it. When I did, we both watched as the skin began to regenerate. Ever since that day I've been healing whoever needs help. The only downside to my ability is that my own healing is rather slow.

I look at Bethany's now healed shoulder and I smile as I stand.

"Thank you so much, Stevie," Bethany smiles and shows off her perfectly straight teeth.

"Of course," I smile back. I envy her naturally straight teeth. I had to endure years of braces to gain the straight teeth I have now but she'll never know the struggle.

As Bethany makes her way to the Black House, where everyone goes to hang out and have fun, I walk towards where Ryan had called from. The usual feeling of happiness is pumping through my veins and I can't fight my smile. My walk to Ryan's house seems shorter than I know it to be and soon I'm standing in his back yard.

Ryan and I have been best friends since we were pups. It's hard not to be seeing as our fathers are closer than we are. He and I have always spent our sincere moments on the swing set in his back yard, but it's also where we've spent our happiest moments as well. When I notice him sitting on the left swing, there's only two, I wonder what is going on. I make my way to my swing and sit, gently swinging back and forth.

"We're going to a meeting next week, a gathering I guess you could call it." He speaks quietly about this and I can feel his distaste for this.

"Okay, and?" I ask just as quietly. "What is it for?"

"It is to meet other alphas and their best females of the pack. They are trying to find my mate since I'm so close to the age of taking over."

Ryan has always been against herding females for display for the males. He thinks he should find her on his own and that showcasing women is disrespectful.

I've just always found it to be tradition.

"When are you going?"

"We," he corrected me and reached for my hand. "I can't keep my temper if you aren't there with me."

I squeeze his hand for comfort as I nod. It isn't unusual for me to come to meetings anyways. "When are we going, then?"

"Next Tuesday," he says, looking off at the forest beyond the limits of his yard.

I nod again, eight days until he has to go to what he thinks is ridiculous. Honestly, I'm excited to meet his soul mate. I bet she'll be beyond gorgeous and suitable for Ryan. He's a handsome guy with his sandy hair, deep blue eyes, strong features. He's had girls from the pack beg for him to show them attention but he isn't like that.
