Chapter 3: Over Doing It

Ryan happily makes my usual rounds with me. He has never been one to argue or complain to any of the plans I have made for us in the past. That's just one of the many things I really appreciate of him.

Betty's fine, she didn't have much news. She seems to know everything about everyone. If anyone wanted to know dirt on someone or if they wanted to know anyone's secrets they could go to Betty for the answer. I'm not entirely sure how she knows everything she does but it's quite entertaining. Although, my favourite part of our trip with her was how she teased Ryan about growing up.

Martha seems to be growing into quite a wonderful mother. She's gotten a routine down with Greg and has adjusted well to practically being a single mother. Bradley gets two days off, though they are sporadic and not definite. His hours are long and I know he is exhausted when he finally gets home. Martha always has dinner ready for when he does arrive home. I know them being apart would never effect their relationship and I'm jealous them. I hope my soulmate will love me unconditionally just as they love each other.

Greg has grown so much in such short time! His big brown eyes seem to analyse everything and I know he will be smart when he's older. He hardly ever fusses which I know must be a blessing for Martha. Greg is nearly always smiling when I talk with him. His smile and his laugh are extremely contagious. I can only hope one day my child will be this calm and happy. Ryan loves children. He played with Greg as Martha and I talked and cleaned. It's nice to have him with me.

I knock on Violets door and wait patiently for her to open it. Ryan sways gently side to side as he usually does when standing in one place, I've grown used to his constant movement. Moments go by without anything from Violet. Something isn't right. Violet goes out on Wednesdays at four in the afternoon and on Sunday's around nine in the morning for service.

"Ryan, something's wrong," I say. I can hear my heartbeat by now, I know how sick she has been recently.

"Could she just be out?" he stops his swaying and looks down at me with his brows drawn together.

"No, she stays on schedule on her outings. She's been sick lately, there's something wrong."

I don't wait for him to answer as I open the door, thankful that she knows she safe enough in the pack to not lock her door. When I walk into the living room I notice she hasn't been in here this morning, the radio isn't on as it is when she starts her day.

"Violet," I call out. I walk quickly through the dull grey hallway that leads to her room and notice her door is still closed.

Though it may be invasion of privacy I open the door the moment I come close enough to do so. My breath catches in my throat as I see her laying on the floor. It looks like she was trying to get to the door, she isn't moving. Her black hair is covering her face and her shirt had rode up from her fall I'm guessing.

"Ryan, call the doctor," I shout as I get on my knees in front of her. My hand automatically goes under her jaw to check for her pulse, it's still there but barely.

My eyes burn as I slowly turn her onto her back and push her curls out of her face. Her plump lips are cracked and paler than I've ever seen them.

"C'mon, Violet, stay with me," I put my hands on either side of her face and lean my forehead on hers.

I put all of my energy into my hands, I have to heal her. I've never tried to heal an inner sickness but I'll be damned if I don't try. The energy I try to focus on floods through me and to my hands, it leaves the rest of me cold as my hands heat up considerably.

Please, Moon, let me save her, I pray silently.

A gasp sounds from under me and I yank my head back to look at Violet. I watch as her skin slowly begins to regain the glow I've missed so much. Her hair seems to regain the shine and kink it once had. Her dark brown eyes flutter open and slowly focus on me.

"Stevie," she says quietly. Her dark eyebrows furrow as she grabs my hands from the sides of her head.

I note how my own hands are now just as cold as the rest of my body has become. My lips turn upwards as I look at how healthy Violet appears.

"Stevie, are you okay?" Violet takes ahold of my shoulders and gently lays me on the floor next to where she was just moments ago.

"Yeah," I breathe out, "I'm fine. How are you?"

"You're not okay. You just healed me and that must've taken a toll on you," she looks so concerned.

"I'm just tired," I smile at her as I let my eyes close. "I usually am after healing big injuries. What was wrong, by the way?"

"Stevie, I had stage three cancer. I thought you knew that."

I shake my head but I find that the energy to do that is too much. "Why weren't you," I have to pause to take a deep breath. "Going through treatment?"

"There was too much of it. It would've been useless," she picks my head up gently and places it in her lap. "You shouldn't of healed me, Stevie. That was way too much for you to do. Will you be okay?"

I just slightly nod. In the distance I can hear Ryan's rhino-like foot steps as he nears.

"What happened?" he asks as he gets on the floor next to us.

I force my eyes to open for a moment so I can look at him and smile.

"She healed me," Violet says quietly. Her long, slender fingers stroke my hair in a calming manner.

"What was wrong?"

"I had cancer."

It appears that Ryan stops breathing. I let my eyes close again as the doctor runs in.

"What's going on?" he asks, I'm sure he's confused as to why I'm the one on the floor.

"She over used her healing," Ryan says after a moment. "She healed Violet."

Everyone's quiet and I can feel myself falling asleep to the motion of Violets fingers through my hair.

Thank you, Moon, I say before I let myself fall into welcomed sleep.
