Epilogue:
“Get ready! Everyone hide, she’s coming!” Duncan hissed overly excited with a spark of excitement in his eyes and I held Jenna’s hand the exact same way I had been doing for the past hour as I directed her towards the spot we had decided to hide in since we arrived. It was behind a big plant that could cover both of us and we were pretty close to the door so that way we could be one of the first people to hug Bailey.
Duncan would be the first, of course.
Everything had worked out incredibly well after the concert. Duncan was not lying; he really was okay with Jenna and me dating. Because yes, after that one date I could not help but kiss her once more and the next thing I knew I was asking her to be my girlfriend, to which she quickly agreed, much to my excitement.
I was truly lucky to have found someone like her and taken advantage of my opportunity when I did. Being with her was a reflection of my good judgment and decisions, in that matter, of course. In the many other matters…we’ll see as the time arrives.
We all tried to stay as quiet as possible as Duncan opened the door for Bailey. He had convinced her to go out with Elle and Rob saying he was planning a small meeting with only us and a small chocolate cake for her birthday.
But the small meeting had turned into an epic-and-everyone-talked-about-for-weeks-party in which almost everyone in the school and some friends from outside had come to. And the small chocolate cake had turned into a three-floor-with-the-best-topping-in-the-world-cake.
There was some noise at the entrance and then we heard Bailey’s chirpy voice echoing through the house. “Hey Duncan, can I come in already?” she questioned with a hint of amusement. If only she knew what was expecting her.
I just love surprise parties, people try to calm down their breathing after the scare they just got while tons and tons of people that have already started the party go over to them and hug them enthusiastically, even if they don’t know for whom the party is. They might even hug the wrong person, but who cares? It is a surprise party!
“We tried to keep her as busy as possible,” Elle told Duncan like a cadet reporting to its officer.
“Thanks,” Duncan replied with a chuckle. “Well, shall we come in?” I could almost see him gallantly offering his arm to Bailey and her blushing. Those two were such an adorable couple. Almost as adorable as Jenna and me.
Oh god, did I really just say that? My apologies to you, I am turning into a softie, and a very crappy one. May the Lord have mercy of me and take me back to the way I was. As long as Jenna is there with me, of course. You know what? I need to stop talking before I say something that will make me punch myself.
“You should pay us for doing such a great job,” Rob stated, carrying on with the conversation to keep Bailey distracted.
“I’m not so sure about that,” Duncan mused and I heard Bailey giggling.
“Well, at least I tried,” Rob replied and I was completely sure he had just shrugged care freely.
I heard some chuckling from the four of them.
“Well, where are the other guys?”
“Oh, over there, let’s go.”
They took a few steps in before we all jumped and chorused a “surprise!”, making Bailey gasp in surprise and Duncan get an award winning smile.
You could see it in his eyes, how happy he was with her. It was funny, we were not exactly players before these two amazing girls, but we were no saints either. But now, we had eyes only for them two. And these were some lucky pair of eyes.
Duncan immediately wrapped his arms passionately and enthusiastically around Bailey as Jenna and I walked towards them and someone turned on the stereo. Music started bursting through the speakers and the party mode was on.
Chatting begun and laughing accompanied it, making it a very livid and animated place. Somewhere I would enjoy being, especially with Jenna.
As Duncan let go of Bailey and Jenna motioned to wrap her arms around her, I could see the happy tears escaping Bailey’s eyes. I could bet this was the first time someone did something like this for her in her birthday. Madison and Alyssa didn’t remember much after them. They were the center of everything.
That was something I would never understand, why Bailey hung out with them. I would rather much be on my own than to hang out with those monsters that look like girls. But every person is different, Bailey had her reasons and I was no one to judge her. But I would find out why she did it. I was intrigued and I would use Jenna to help me find out, we would become partners in crime in that, and oh so much more.
Jenna let go of her and Elle followed, hugging the brunette as tightly as she could while whispering some good wishes to her. Presents started to be handed to Bailey who blushed profusely every time she got one and thanked a million times for each and as well saying ‘you didn’t have to’ and ‘you shouldn’t have’.
If there is something I admire of her is her humbleness. She is so beautiful and smart and interesting, but if you try to compliment her on it, she will quickly divert the attention from her. Not without previously thanking you a million times, that is.
As euphoria took over the room, I took a moment to sit back, metaphorically, and observe everything around me and smile.
Everything was finally the way it was supposed to be.
