 2 - Vuoi Sposarmi?

 *Knock, knock*

“Yeah?” I said while getting back my composure, which was all over the place after listening and dancing to I Knew You Were Trouble by Taylor Swift. That song gets me crazy, moving like I have just been shot every five seconds. It is not such a pretty sight, I must confess.

“Are you ready, darling? Because we should get going, it’s late,” Mom said, popping her head through the door.

“Yeah, I am ready, let’s go.”

“Okay. Great.”

We walked together down the stairs. Since we were going to a dinner, both of us were wearing high heels. We are both tall, but let’s face it: high heels are awesome and make you look so fancy, elegant and stylish. Have you seen how your legs get enhanced about a thousand percent? I personally love high heels. Even the tap they make on the floor as you walk. I find it soothing.

It had been five minutes since we had got into the car and still none of us said anything. You could feel the tension in the air, so palpable. We both knew I was just fine with it and teat she was happy, but the mere idea of change got us afraid. We were the same after all.

 “Mom?” I called hesitantly.

“Yes?” She looked at me for a couple of seconds before looking back at the road just for me to know she had my attention.

“Are you nervous?”

“Nervous? Well, yes. Two important people in my life are about to meet and I want this to work out. Why do you ask?”

“I don’t know, it’s just…are you searching for your happy ending?”

She stayed quiet for a while, like not sure if she should answer or how. Since the divorce she had not dated anyone, and it have been seven years already. “I am looking for a happy ending. But if it does not include you, then I am not interested. You are the most important person in my life, Jenna. If my picture perfect does not include you, I rather stay alone with cats forever than to leave you or let you be unhappy.” I smiled and placed my hand over hers in gratitude. “Can I know why you ask?”

I knew I was asking because of some other reason, and she knew it as well. “Well…it’s just that this situation got me thinking…when will I have my happy ending? I mean, I am fifteen and I have never had a boyfriend. Is there like something wrong with me, mom?” I questioned nervously. I rarely thought of boyfriends and I did not feel lonely, but I could not help but wonder if things were going to stay like this forever.

“No, baby, there is nothing wrong with you. Look, you have to stop searching for that happy ending. It comes on its own. I did not search for your father, or for this new man. They came to me. God got them in my way, if you want to think it that way. But just because most of the girls your age have had boyfriends already does not mean you have to have one to. It is your decision, honey. And you better have someone good than have tons of bad boyfriends. And I know you are a lover of long lasting relationships, serious relationships. So why would you waste your time with boys that are just not worth it?” she ranted.

I had to muffle a giggle. I should have known she was going to make a huge deal of my inquisition. But it felt nice to know she cared. Sometimes that is all I need.

She smiled warmly at me, putting me at ease. With that, she pulled over in a fancy Italian restaurant. It was so nice and cozy. Just imagine Italy in a piece of land, liked packed into a small frame. Got it? Okay, that is how this restaurant looks like. It has this rustic environment and a cozy vibe that makes you want to stay in it for ever.
