Shiku heard another rattling noise, in actuality it was a small series of noises; a small hum of electricity, a sickening thump, then the worse part,
the silence.
Shiku dived behind a skinny tree and bit his finger, he tried to control his erratic breathing and stop his heart from pounding, someone had to hear it, right?
He didn't know his heart was capable of moving that fast.
He was beginning to see he didn't know much, not really.
"Finished." a voice stated emotionlessly. Shiku whimpered as he heard footsteps recede into the night.
After a few moments Shiku allowed himself to peer around his hiding place, the now dark landscape greeted him, he hadn't noticed how quickly time seemed to move. Taking a shaky breath Shiku began standing, though his legs were as unsteady as a baby's...
Baby?
The meaning was on the tip of his tongue.
Shaking his head away from his confusion Shiku braced himself and slowly moved towards where the sound had originated. A few meters away from where he had been a small clump of shrubbery sat innocently within the dark landscape, and in the center of the shrubs was a haunting sight.
A large clump of blood.
("Blood?" a mocking voice asked him "Do you even know what that is?"
It was his own voice.)
"What...?" he spluttered out, a steady knot growing in his constricting throat. He took two steps backwards and felt himself fall down, though the sensation was lost on his reeling mind.
"You heard that?" a gruff voice spat out sinfully. Shiku felt his breathing tilt into chaos as he shaking stood once again and took off into the dark forest.
(=+=)
Shiku managed to make it far enough the he didn't feel as if he would be caught at any turn.
He simply took greedy breaths for a long period of time.
"What was that?" Shiku asked the heavens,
he got no reply.
