Maria's P.O.V

"I can take care of myself" I stated to the commander. He was a good friend of my fathers, "Just because my dad told you to watch me doesn't mean I can't take care of myself" I wasn't mad, I was just using a 'matter of fact' tone. He was my boss after all. "I know, just be careful" I saluted him and left. I was in his office because he was going to replace me with someone else. Not entirely, just for this one job. Thought I was too fragile and it would put my life at risk. I'm a freaking security guard in this place, is that not risking my life already. This isn't a normal prison, it's a fortress. High security, tight shifts, close watches on all of the prisoners. If we had to, lock down. This isn't some place where all the little criminals go. This is the place where all the serial people go, and even the worse ones. Murderers, drug people, thieves, rapist, and even worse. There was even this one person who tried to destroy the world. If Eggman was caught, he would go here. The people in this joint were serious criminals. I made my way to the bridge, that's what we call the place we unload prisoners, where I was suppose to help. The reason why he thought it would be too much for me is because when the prisoners first get here we don't have quite a handle on them. "Hey Maria" Zonic, one of the other guards, greeted me as I approached. (This is not the Zone prison, but it's like it)(Zonic is a human) "Hey" I greeted back. Just as I was walking there, a prisoner got lose. Started shooting, even killing, some of the guards. "Maria!" Zonic shouted as the runaway was headed towards me. Before I could act, he jumped over me and twisted around to face toward me. Before he could land, in heat of the moment, I grabbed out my taser and pointed it diagonally up and shot. It hit him, but it didn't faze him at all. In fact it just caused him to pull the trigger. My eyes widen as the bullet hit me, it wasn't enough to kill me. I stood up gripping my arm as a gun was held onto my forehead. "Ready to die?" he asked in a cold tone, "Now!" Zonic shouted as he threw some sort of collar around the guys neck. I didn't know what he meant but I grabbed my taser and shot him. This time it stunned him and he fell to the ground. I was breathing heavily, I could've just died. This was more dangerous than I thought, "You okay?" I looked up at Zonic, "I just got shot, what do you think?" he just shrugged. "I've seen worse cat scratches" I stick out my tongue at him before my vision becomes blurry and I pass out from the blood loss.

I opened my eyes, I was the recovery room. Yes, in this kind of place you got to have a doctor place. "Are you alright?" this time it wasn't Zonic, it was the commander. "Yeah, I'm fine" I looked down at my wound. He hit my arm. "I knew I shouldn't have let you go. This is exactly why I wanted you to work as a nurse" I shook my head. I couldn't be bothered by him right now. I was too exhausted. Good thing the nurse came in before I said something I would regret, "Sirs, I would ask that you could leave. Ms. Robotnik needs her rest" Zonic was also standing there with the commander. He waved to me before they left. "Thank you" the nurse nodded her head and closed the door. The next day I was patched up and ready to start my duty. It took a lot of arguing to get the commander of my back. I could finally get back to what I was doing. I was walking down the corridors out to the field where all the prisoners were when, "Look who it is, the lady cop" I stopped dead in my tracks. "Who's there?" I turned around and started to look all over the place. "Where else would I be?" he said in a more harsh tone. I then turned my attention to one of the cells still holding a prisoner. He approached the bars so I could see him in the light. It was him, that crimson streaked ebony hedgehog that had me at gunpoint. I gulped, I could feel the fear in me rising. Part of me wanted to run away, but some of me wanted to stay. Why? I snapped my head back to look at him when he broke me out of my thoughts by snapping his fingers. "What?" I said in a harsh tone, I never noticed how bloodshot his eyes were. They were ruby red with a look that could kill. "What are you in here for? All the inmates are suppose to be outside" "I don't play well with others" I flinched, his voice was deep and low. Soothing, if it weren't for the motives of what he was saying. I shook my head, waving my finger. I decided to play with him, mess around. "Has someone been a bad boy?" I teasingly asked. "You humans" he huffed, "what about us?" I crossed my arms as he gripped the bars tighter. "You're all the same, discriminating anamorphic animals because were different" I just leaned against the bars. "I know, were terrible. Putting you in a lower class and treating you poorly because we think were dominant. Treating you as though your lower than dirt. Even Sonic is a hero and they still treat them poorly" I couldn't help but say all that. I disagreed. No human ever thought of anamorphic animals as more than a threat. I see them as equal. It's discrimination all over again, first African Americans now anamorphic animals. "I take it you don't feel the same way?" "No!" I slam my hands on the wall. "It's wrong, they should be treated the same even though their different" I stopped and looked up at him, "Why am I talking to you?" "Humph" was all he said before he returned to the back of the cell, in the darkness.
