When I got home I dropped my keys on the counter and went into the secret room under the stairs. Eve put it in because she doesn't want me fighting people with guns and it has extra food and water incase the mail didnt come and I ended up not getting the money she sends, but its also where I keep my journal. Grabbing my journal I walked out of the room and into the kitchen. Putting a hot pocket in the microwave I sat down on the counter and marked off today on the calendar. When my food was done I took it to the living room with my journal and sat down on the floor. I quickly wrote what had happened and questions to ask Eve next time she called. By that time Pumpkin, my cat, woke up from her nap in the window. Coming over she put her paw on my thigh which is her way of asking for food. I gave her some and sat in silence. Thoughts ran through my head 'what did I do' 'how did they find me' 'could I go back?' 'how will I disappear again? Eva will find me again and I can't have that happen'. With every thought I took an angry bite of the hot pocket every once in a while getting cold spots. Sighing I got up and walked upstairs walking into my room I saw my window was open. I grabbed my pocket knife and walked to the window shutting it quickly I walked around the house making sure no one was with me whispering "clear" when I found no one, old habits die hard. I sighed to myself for being so scared and decided to take a hot shower and go to bed.
This "awesome Friday night out" didn't turn out that awesome. I took my time showering, no one else needed the hot water anyway. I stood in the shower until I felt cold water going over my back and my cat meowing. I switched off the water and wrapped a towel around my body. I let Pumpkin in while I brushed my teeth and combed and braided my hair. Walking to my room I put on an over sized shirt and a pair of shorts then went back down stairs to watch some TV.
Soon I was failing asleep but I was woke up by my phone ringing. Sighing I put the phone to my ear and answered.
"Come to the back ally behind the gas station. Or you won't see your best friend again."
"Who is this??" I said siting up instantly. I quickly relized I needed actual clothes and began walking upstairs.
"Aww baby. Don't you remember me? You killed my brother. I'm kinda hurt I mean I was so kind to you-"
"You are crazy Dayem. You know who killed Tony and it wasn't me."
"Now come on over here and we can fix this hmm?"
"I want proof of life before I go anywhere." I said stopping at the top of the stairs. There was some movement and I heard a shacking breath before I heard my best friend.
"Hall?"
"Are you okay Jay? He didn't hurt you did he?"
"No.. No.. I'm okay... What's happening Hallow? Who is this guy. Hallow I'm scared and-"
"Thats enough girl. Stop your crying its annoying."
"Dayem, I swear to God if you hurt her."
"You have two hours to get here before she dies. See you then love." He said before hanging up.
I marched up stairs a string of curses following me. I walked to my dresser and pulled on a sports bra and an tank top with some dark washed jeans and a leather jacket with, of course, combat boots. This outfit I hoped I never was going to wear again. It was what the gang has known me to wear when I was on a "mission". Sighing I slipped on my necklace from my boyfriend when he was alive, we were both in a gang how long do you think we would actually live. Still it hurt when he died. So I put his ring on a thick chain and wear it around my neck when I'm on a mission. It reminds me I could die at anytime and anywhere.
I tied up my boots and walked out of my room to the kitchen. I wrote a note to Eve in case I didnt come home and I left my phone so she knew it was serious. The phone was the only way for her to track me, it would take he way longer to find me if I didn't have it. Feeding the cat and filling her water I opened the door to leave. There was a guy standing with his back towards me on the steps.
"Can I help you?" I asked shutting the door and locking it. The guy stiffened and shook his curly brown hair out, gave a tired sigh before standing up. He was at least 6 foot and he was dressed similar to me. Black long sleeve shirt and dark jeans with combat boots. He turned around with a sad smile and my heart stopped at who it was.
Because there is no way this person could be standing in front of me right now. Because I had buried his body a few years ago, right before I left the gang. Hell he was the reason I left. I couldn't do my missions without my partner, without David, I couldn't keep the life I was living alone again. Because David was my boyfriend before our gang leader, Dayem, shot him in the head in front of me.
"How.."
"Listen Hal-"
"You're dead. You cant be here."
"Listen. I know. This isn't how I wanted to see you again. But... Hell..."
"I buried you. You were dead and I was alone with them again. You were alive this whole time? I was completely ruined when you were shot."
"Hallow. I'm sorry." He said looking down and biting his bottom lip in thought.
"Where were you? After all these years..." I said my voice cracking and tears blurring my vision. Damn it I don't have time for this.
"Dayem needed me for a deep undercover assignment. And we had gotten so knew working together that they started to know what to look for. He needed to get rid of one of us. And I couldn't let him kill you. So I volunteered to 'die'. I understand I wouldn't see you again for some years and you would be upset and I feel horrible. But the gang he sent me to. Its big now. And they want you. Every gang in America looking for you. The famous Heartless Assassin."
"Well, I've been out of that business since you died. Well technically YOU AREN'T DEAD," I said throwing up my hands, "But hey who said you cant just show up out of nowhere and- wait are you taking me back to a gang?"
"What? No. I came to warn you. And I cant let you go meet Dayem. I've seen the life you built here. Its good. I don't want you going back in that business."
"Wait what do you mean seen? You've been watching me? For how long? Damn it David."
"I might have been here for about a month." He said looking away from me.
"Were you ever going to tell me you were alive?" I asked painfully.
The silence told me all I needed to know.
"You don't get to put your two cents in anymore David. You left me to think you were dead for not just a few weeks but a few years. That destroyed me," I said taking off the necklace I have always had close. Looking at it with sad eyes I tossed it at him and watched as it landed at his feet. "Have it back. I guess you'll want it back since you are alive and all." I said before hopping over the railing and walking towards the garage to get my motorcycle.
"Wait Hallow." He called after me as I got on the bike and started it.
"David. If you want to talk about the past few years. Then just stay here. Go inside pet Pumpkin. Get some food. Or wait outside. Or if you don't just leave again. You are good at that. The spare bedroom is up the stairs to the right." I said before leaving him behind as I speeded off toward my best friend and worst enemy.
