"How would you know them?" He looked down at the hand he was gripping, he played for a minute with my finger tips.

"You have angel blood running through your veins, not just any angel blood either." He finally spoke. I had a hard time believing him, heck I always had a hard time believing him.

“What does this have to do with my parents and what in the world are you talking about?” I was so confused, I could barely get that sentence out of me.

“You’ve got dark angel blood running through  your body.” I stood still, just staring at him. What else could I do? I knew my mouth was hanging open in astonishment.

“How?” I asked slowly. He looked just as uncomfortable as I did. I felt like we were talking about how he was an angel only this time the roles were most definitely reversed and we were talking about my heritage.

“You’re father. I recognized his name, but I wasn’t sure until you said your mothers name. They sounded vaguely familiar, it wasn’t until you mentioned their deaths, then the connection was clear to me. I still don’t know how I couldn’t figure it out before, that incident went down into history for the supernatural.” He shook his head and sighed as he brought me closer to him. “May I?” He pointed to my hair and I nodded. He ran his hands through it and stayed silent. It was relaxing in a way, but I was still left confused.

“Nathan, I have absolutely no inkling on what you’re talking about.”

“I know, I know. It’s very hard to be intelligible at the moment, this new information is severely overwhelming me. I don’t even want to think about how you’ll react to it.”

“Listen.” I gently pulled his hands away from my hair, “ I have every right to know. You know very well that you’ve pulled me into this new universe and I’m in too deep already to come out anytime soon.” I leaned down a little and kissed him right on the mouth. This once again surprised him. He nodded and brought me even closer to him.

“Before Colby, before I, even before James or Jay as you like to call him. There was two sides to angels, light and dark, but you already know this. Now every side has to have a leader, not necessarily a monarchy or a dictator. We never did government. The light side had more of a democracy, I think you’re familiar with that term. Like presidentship somebody has to step up and be the leader, that would be Jay today.”

“It’s different in the dark side though.” He stopped for a moment and looked straight ahead with a glaze in his eyes as he started talking again. “You’re born into leadership or you kill the leader, it’s that simple.”

“What does this have to do with me again?” I was getting very impatient. To be honest I didn’t really care about how they ruled.

“This has everything to do with you. You are the previous leaders daughter.” My eyes widened. “You’ve got to understand that Thomas was a rueful leader, there was nobody crueler. Then he met your mother.” My mind was racing as the story was foretold. Was I evil? What did this make of me? My heart was beating furiously.

“I presume that Jay has told you about high angel’s and soulmates?” I nodded. “It’s relatively the same for dark angel’s, but only for the royals or leaders. There’s only one thing different about it though. You can only inherit the ‘mating’ trait if you’re a male.”

“What? That’s so sexist.”

“Equal rights weren’t so big when these laws were created, and they aren’t aloud to be altered or changed, so it’s always been this way. Anyways let’s get back to the story.” I nodded and grabbed a blanket, it was getting really cold. Nathan must have noticed. As he had been telling his story he was making all kinds of hand gestures so we both silently decided it’d be better if I sat next to him, unless I want to risk getting poked violently in the eye. He motioned for me to come closer. Nathan grabbed my arms and put both his hands under my body.
