"Tess, I'm gonna go to the cafe. Do you wanna come with or do you want me to get you something?" I asked as I fixed my hair in my bathroom.
"Give me five minutes," she yelled from what sounded like her room that was on the other side of our apartment.
Tessa and I had been friends since our freshman year of high school and fortunately got accepted into the same university, UCLA that is. Our first year, we lived on campus but weren't roommates because we didn't have a choice. Then our sophomore year we got to room together in the upperclassmen dorms. On campus housing was not worth the amount we had to pay, so we combined our money together and found an apartment that was about fifteen minutes away from school. Neither of us were troubled in the financial area as both of our families were mighty wealthy. Although, we were raised to put in work in order to earn what we want, so we both had jobs in order to pay our bills. It's the fun in being adults in college. Sarcasm.
"Hurry your ass up," I joked, walking back into my bedroom and grabbing my small Coach messenger bag from my closet. I had a full rack dedicated to purses, most of them name brands like Coach, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, and Michael Kors.
"I'm ready, hoe," Tessa appeared at my door. "What time do you have to be at work?"
"At 2, why? Gonna throw another one of your parties?"
"Everyone is back from winter vacation and classes start tomorrow, so we need to celebrate getting closer to graduation," she winked and I could only shake my head at her. We were different, but also the same. She liked to party hard whereas I liked to, but not to the point where I didn't remember anything the next day. She's the more laid-back and chill personality, wearing boys shirts or pants as I was a little more girly with things. I hated the color pink, though. We both love shopping and spending money. Oh, and we had the same love for marijuana, mainly in the edible form. The list goes on and on.
"I get off around 10, tell everyone to come at 11:00 so I have time to get ready."
"I'm inviting Cameron," she smirked and my heart started to pump faster. She knew I had the biggest crush on him ever since he held the door for me freshman year.
"Okay and," I tried to play it off like he had no effect on me.
"Girl, you better make a move before it's too late," she pointed her index finger at me as I slipped my boots on, leaving them unzipped.
"He doesn't like me, there's no point," I rolled my eyes and walked over to her. She led the way out and I turned off my bedroom light before following her through our huge living room. "It's been four years and all he ever says to me is Hey, what's up," I poorly mimicked him.
"That's not true from what I heard," Tessa said in a melodious tone while opening the apartment door and holding it for me. "Valeria got some insight over the break."
"The hell? How?" I asked while furrowing my eyebrows as I walked out and we continued down the hall to the elevator.
"Last night she was telling me about her break and you will never guess what she said..." I motioned with my hand for her to continue. I swear she always wanted me to guess things when I obviously had no clue where to begin. "Devon invited her to spend a week with his family and Cameron was there. They're cousins!" she laughed, rounding the corner and pressing the down arrow on the elevator.
"That hoe never tells me anything," I groaned. "Holy shit." Valeria and Devon were first year graduate students who had been dating for two years. I was lowkey jealous of them.
