Christmas Eve, and I was going to spend it at Mount Justice. May I remind you that I've lived in central California for most of my life (well I was born and raised here, I'm not counting my three-ish years on Odym), and well, winters aren't too bad here. In Rhode Island, they are.
No one else, no one, on the team gets it either. Robin and Artemis were raised in Gotham, and it's always cold there. Wally, he lives in Central, and I think they have pretty have bad winters. M'gann, well she's from Mars, and it's freezing there. Superboy, well he's a Kryptonian and temperatures don't affect him. Kaldur doesn't even wear shoes most of the time, so cold temperatures must be nothing to him.
And then there's me freezing my ass off while everybody else it either immune or used to it. I hate the fact that wearing a ski mask would signal that you're about to rob a place, because it would be really handy for warming your nose.
But anyways, back to Christmas Eve.
"Why the hell did you wait until Christmas Eve to get someone a gift" Artemis asked.
"Why did I wait until the night before to start my English essay? Because I work harder when I have less time, also procrastination" I said.
"That's what I figured" She responded.
I didn't tell her who the gift was for, because it was for someone extremely special. I know what you're thinking: Wow Stella that's the sappiest thing I've ever heard, BUT I think that she's worth it.
"Hey I'm gonna go to the bathroom real quick" Artemis said.
"Okay, don't fall in" I said while laughing.
"You are such an idiot" She replied.
"Yup" I said.
So that's when I went crazy looking for the perfect gift. I had already planned out what I was going to get her, I just needed to find it. I looked over, and there it was; The arrow necklace with the aquamarine stone, it was her birthstone. Don't ask me how I know that. I quickly grabbed it from the display and made my way over to the counter. I had been saving up for this, and honestly 150 bucks wasn't that bad. Suddenly, I spotted Artemis emerging from the bathroom, I had five seconds to shove the gift in the bag and find a way to casually not tell what it was.
"Hey, you ready to go?" I asked.
"Yeah, what'd you get for this mystery person of yours?" She asked.
"It's a surprise?" I said.
"Oh, OK" She responded sarcastically.
I hope that I don't screw this up.
The whole team is staying the night at Mount Justice, which means I have to get back quickly to claim the couch. So, I casually suited up, picked up Artemis, and flew back, don't judge. We entered through the side entrance. When I walked into the living room, low and behold, the couch was empty. So, I threw all of my stuff on it, therefore claiming it.
"Hey Stella," I heard Wally's voice from the kitchen, "When did you get here?".
"Two seconds ago actually" I replied.
"I have been so bored" He said.
"What, is Robin not here either" I asked.
"Oh, yeah he is, along with the rest of the team that refused to do anything until you two got back" Wally complained.
"Well, we're here now" Artemis said.
"Guys, this is urgent," Robin said as he stormed through the doorway, "Wally got picked to choose what we're doing".
