Chapter 10:

I waited for Puck for a week, but I hadn’t seen him since our fight. I cursed at myself for yelling at him, but quickly turned around as I heard a pain-filled cry for help. As I squinted to see who it was, another cry filled the air.

I moved towards the forest, slowly, being extremely cautious.

At the edge of the clearing, I spotted a lump of ripped clothes and blood. With a sick stomach, I realized it was Puck. I dashed over to him quickly.

“Puck, oh my god! What happened?!”

I kneeled beside him, seeing blood and wounds everywhere, on his legs, arms, chest, and his face. I tried not to look into his eyes while I sat beside him, inspecting his wounds.

I hurried to the hidden tree house, and quickly grabbed my emergency supplies: gauze, disinfectant, water, needle and thread, and herbs to heal.

I jumped back down from the tall tree and hurried back to him.

I started to clean his wounds, paying especial attention to the deep bite mark on his calf. It was bleeding profusely and looked terribly painful. He winced as I cleaned it out and stitched it up.

“Oh, Puck, I am so sorry…..”

He didn’t say anything; he didn’t have the strength to. I dressed all of his wounds, leaving his face for last, the wounds there were bleeding the least, but they were still deep. I was extremely gentle as I cleaned out his face, and started to stitch it up.

He didn’t object, but I saw the pain in his eyes and I gave him a few poppy seeds to sedate him. As he chewed on them, I saw his eyes droop, and he slowly drifted into a deep sleep, where he would feel no pain.

I continued to sew his face back together, but as I did, I noticed the pattern of these injuries. They were animal bites and scratches. Someone, or something big had attacked him, and it was very powerful.

I finished the stitches, but there wasn’t anything I could do about the long, thin scars that would appear as he healed. I held his head in my lap, hoping, praying, that he would be alright.
