Chapter 5:

I wasn’t ever good with boys. Although I may be small and curvy, I somehow was never lucky with meeting someone. Honestly, I never really thought about it until now.

As I walked to the pack den, I saw multiple events happening at the same time. I saw my father discussing with a man who I assumed was the Southern Pack alpha and a woman who seemed to be his alphess. He was a tall burly man with many scars. His dark hair was down past his shoulders and seemed greasy in the setting sun. The female was thinner, but sturdy with almost platinum blonde hair that was cut into a very old style.

I covered my face as the sun set, not wanting my father to have to explain why his daughter was almost on fire. As I observed everyone, I noticed that the Southern Pack seemed terribly skinny. I could count almost every rib bone. They were large in size but obviously lacking in food supplies. All of the sudden, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned slowly, hoping it wasn’t who I knew it was.

“I assume you are Aurelia, heir alphess of the North Forest Pack. I am Dmitri Romanoff.”

I nodded slowly as he talked. His voice was deep and rough, unlike Puck’s soothing tone. He looked almost identical to his father, perhaps the younger version of him. His hair was down to his shoulders, with color a few shades darker than his father.

His eyes were a bright, icy blue, and I felt like they could chill a person to the bone with just a glance. He was tall and muscular; I could tell he was a fighter. I spoke quietly, suddenly nervous.

“Yes, I am Aurelia. It is nice to meet you, Dmitri.”

He barely smiled, but all of the girls were looking at me with envious eyes. My first instinct was to shrink back, but my father gave me a cold look and nodded his head jerkily at me. I stood up straight, making myself seem like the alphess I was destined to be.

Both of the packs watched us as we stared at each other without a word, and as the moon rose, I turned in circles, watching everyone I knew change into large canines. They pawed at the ground, some snapping at the other pack under pure instinct.

I looked forward once more and looked at Dmitri. He gave me a mischievous and almost devilish glare before landing on his hands and knees. As I stared, fur sprouted from every pore in his body, and in a few seconds, I was face-to-face with a gargantuan black wolf.

He growled at me, noticing I was still human, and I quickly followed him, changing into the beast I was forced to become every full moon. My skin prickled and I screamed in pain. My bones were melting and shifting inside my body, as if I was made of lava. I could feel silky fur erupting from every pore in my body.

Even as a wolf, I was at least 2 hands shorter than Dmitri, but we were obviously alphas, we were larger than the rest, almost as large as our fathers. My wolf just wanted to run.

Hunt. Kill. Blood.

Unable to control my lycan form, I gladly greeted the moon, howling loudly. Within less than a second, the packs followed my example, and we all sang together. After a few joyous howls, my father and Dmitri’s father signaled that it was time to run. My father looked at me, motioning that I would be leading the pack tonight.

My wolf quickly dashed up to the front, and nuzzled his flank in thanks. I stepped forward and raised my head proudly, seeing Dmitri next to me, doing the same. Without looking at Dmitri straight on, I just ran. Soon, I heard the feet of my followers, and my chest swelled with pride, glad that I was leading my friends and family.

Suddenly, my head turned and I stopped running, emitting a low growl.

Shifter.

Inside I was panicking, but my wolf just turned to the pack, expression filled with hatred. I motioned to my father that the Shifter was near, and he told the packs. Soon, the area was filled with growls, barks, and snarls. I looked at my father, and he stepped down slightly. I looked at my followers, my teeth bared.

Kill the Shifter.

------Puck's POV--------

I just attempted the most moronic idea of my life.

Still in my raven form, I flew to the Rouge Forest and set up the werewolf snare. In less than an hour, I had caught a fully changed lycan. I retched as I rolled around on him, my clothes soaking in the musky earth scent of the werewolf.

Soon, it seemed as if I was steeped in the scent, and I quickly changed into my wolf form, and ran off to find Aurelia, only to soon run into two packs, with Aurelia leading once of them with a large burly black wolf.

As soon as I saw him, I knew what was happening, and I yearned to rip his throat out. I stayed concealed behind a tree, knowing that Aurelia had smelled me. I hoped I wouldn’t be the one dying tonight.
