50 REASONS WHY IT ALL WENT WRONG

ARTHUR'S POV

"Your father has returned." My mum coughed at the table. She looked up at the man standing in the hallway. He was not my dad.

"Why?" Connor sneered from the right.

Connor always hated that man for the same reason I did. Peter has never met the man, and will never know his cruelty. My mum wouldn't either. Neither would the others. They were his kids.

"Because I wanna be with me kids!"

"Your father has custody rights." My mum smiled. "Annddd... he's moving in with us."

"WHAT?!" I jolted out of my seat.

"Arthur! Sit down, and it would do you well to learn proper manners."

Ex-Father sat down with us. "Your Mother and I have worked a few things out, I mean we did have six kids for a reason euh?" He chuckled.

This boiled my blood. Bolton was not my father and never would be. Not after all he's done.

Mom just laughed. How could she? I guess it's not her fault she never knew, or really, was never told.

"Your father wants to go on a fishing trip with you guys!" Mum squealed. "It'll just be you boys, our fishing boat, and the sea for the entire weekend."

"Really Mum?!" Seamus clapped. "Just us men? That'll be epic! We can go whaling!"

"No it will not." Connor grumbled and pushed away his food.

"We shall gather at the docks friday night and set sail boys." Bolton smirked, holding Mum. "Then we can get reacquainted."

I was about to get up and leave right there when a small touch stopped me. Peter had griped my hand, probably wanting me to speak up for him.

"Well, father, you've been gone a while. Thirteen years. This is the newest addition to the Kirklands." I held Peter close to me.

"Hello, my name is Bolton." He stuck his hand out. He had a warm smile, but his eyes were filled with a hatred, and one I knew too well. This is not my kid.

Peter looked at me before timidly shaking his hand. Mum looked overjoyed as she watched the scene unfold, no doubt thinking about how the family was finally together. Pfft, we've never been more torn. As the tension raveled Gavin, who was sitting quietly at the table eating a biscuit, got up and smashed his plate on the ground, gripping everyone's full attention with ease.

"I think we should all sleep," He muttered. "Night family."

As he walked away Connor huffed and got up, thrusting his chair into the table and followed without a word; Seamus, who had let go of kinda dad, looked confused as he trailed his twin down the hall and up the narrow stairs to the bedroom lofts as I slowly stood.

"Come Peter. Goodnight mother." I bowed my head respectfully. "Goodnight...Mr. Bolton."

Peter, watching my every move, uttered the same words and clutched onto the back of my shirt as we headed to bed. I helped him change into those horrid Sailor Moon pjs he has and tucked him in.

"Night brat." I patted his head.

"Wait!" He shot up.

"Yes?"

"Will you tell me a bedtime story?" He blushed.

I smiled. "Little Peter wants a story euh?"

"Be serious! I'm nervous and honestly scared. Three days with a stranger? He looks nothing like me, and..what if you and the others leave me and hang out with the new guy more and forget all about me and--"
