The morning after I had seen Carl for the first time in a while, there seemed to be a lot going on. I woke up to the sounds of worry, crying and shouting. I rapidly opened my tent door and the warm autumn air hit my face lightly as a looked around to see everyone gathered around Otis's truck. Only Shane had returned.
Yesterday, Shane and Otis went to the nearby school, from what I heard it was only about 20 minutes away from the farm land. They went to grab medicine and supplies to keep Carl going, and for his scar to heal faster. We all gathered around the truck as Shane slowly got out. I walked towards Lori and cowered behind her because I didn't trust Shane, not one bit. He kept his head low down and walked past everyone and straight into the farm house. We all saw him hand the supplies to Rick as they gave a tight hug in appreciation.
Outside, we all stood puzzled as to where Otis was. His wife Patricia, was slowly breaking down. You could see it in her eyes, the tears slowly rising to the surface and trickling down her cheek. She gripped her hands tight and began to follow the direction in which Shane had led. Lori followed her, she looked like she knew what was going on, I wanted to find out! So I quietly creeped behind her as she trailed behind Patricia into the house. I stayed stood outside the door as I listen into their conversation. Carl was knocked out on antibiotics again to heal the pain of the wound. Lori, Rick and Shane were furiously yet quietly discussing a situation.
Otis was dead. Dead.... That word does not sound good at all and with Shane around, you have got to know there was trouble involved. As I continued to earwig, I accidentally moved my foot ever so slightly left and it made the floor board creek. All of a sudden Lori furiously opened the door and gave me a hard stare
" now young lady, I don't think this is were you should be, run along and help carol outside. I'm sure there are some jobs you could do? "
She then shut the door and left me puzzled. This is all that would be in my mind for the next few hours. I need to tell someone!
I slammed the front door and ran towards carol, who was hanging the wet clothes on a line. I got to her and froze. I didn't plan out what I had to say!
" Jess ? Honey, is everything okay? "
I couldn't get words out of my mouth! I was too shocked to talk. I was so upset about what I had heard...
So I ran, away from the farm, and away from all the people. I can't trust them. How can I?
I was sprinting, my body full of adrenaline. I was heading to the barn. Nobody will find me here. I couldn't get in the main way into the barn so I ran around trhe side. I used the ladder to get in. I was so upset I just needed some time alone... But that's not what I got.Carl's POV
I had woken up from a deep sleep after being knocked out by... Well you name it. I had no idea what they had given me, but it sure helped with the gunshot wound!
Hershel was letting me out of the room. He told me that I had recovered well. He was going on about how I need to take care of myself and not take any sudden movements for a few days
but I wasn't listening to him. I was stuck in my own head, thinking about how excited I was to see Jess. I bet she looked as beautiful as ever.
I slowly walked outside as everyone slightly cheered as I stepped out of the house for the first time in a while. I got hugs and yet.... Not one from Jess ... There was no sight of her. The first thing I said was
"Where is Jess? "
Everybody looked around, as I walked towards our tent, and opened it fast in worry. She wasn't there. I checked the RV, no sign of her there. I was getting angry. "WHERE THE HELL IS SHE?! Seriously, has nobody seen her ?!" I was raging with angry and worry
Carol turned around and looked at me. " last time I saw her, she seemed really worried. I think saw her run towards the barn"
Without another thought I began sprinting as fast as I possibly could towards the barn. It was further than I thought. I looked back and saw Shane chasing me and Hershel slowly catching up with him.
"Carl stop! You don't know what's out there!" Shane screamed towards me. He was at least 200 meters away from me. The barn was still on the farm grounds so I was still in sight. I shouted for Jess, I got no answer. I was now in front of the barn. I looked at the main door to get into the barn and tried to break the padlock
"JESS? You in there ?!" I waited for a reply, immediately after, I heard a scream
"Carl ?! Is that you?! Help! " That was her! She was in there
"I'm coming!" I screamed in worry.
Trying to kick the main door down was not helping. I thought fast and ran to the side of the barn. My eyes flew rapidly from each corner of my eye trying to find a way into the huge barn in front of me.
Beside a huge hay stack was a ladder. I just about reached it whilst balancing on the hay. I hauled myself up and climbed to the top. By this time Shane was nearly following me up the ladder and Hershel was not far behind.
"No! Don't go in there!!!" Hershel said angrily
I heard Jess scream my name yet again, ignoring Hershel, I ran inside and my jaw dropped! A small ledge was on the inside of the barn with a ladder leading down. I looked down and the barn was full of walkers, moaning and groaning.......because Jess had slipped and was hanging off the side on the ledge.
"Carl you need to help me! I can't get up! "
Shane stormed up the ladder and when he saw what was inside, held me back.
"Well shit, this is what is wrong with that crazy old man" he said calmly.
I wriggled free of his grip on my shoulders and ran over to Jess. I grabbed her wrists and tried hauling her up. It wasn't working. I was using all of my power to try and drag her back onto the ledge. All of my pain and worry was building up
"Carl hurry"
At that moment, I slipped, the slightest bit, one of the walkers grabbed at her foot and she screamed! I held her so tight. I didn't want to loose her, not to there monsters. You guys! I'm so sorry I haven't wrote for so so so long! Hope you like this chapter ☺️ love ya!!
