'No that doesn't seem right.'

I reach out for my rubber once again and sigh in frustration, creasing my sheet music with the constant friction between paper and rubber.

'Why can't I get this part right?' I cry, placing my forehead on the table.

Majoring in music isn't as easy as I thought it would be. I had a passion for music ever since I could toddle but between starting the band and college I can't seem to prioritise anything, whether it be relationships or friendships.

I heard a key in the lock of our small apartment door and thought it to be my roommate, and best friend, Melanie. (yes Martinez ahaha)

'Hey Mels, back from class?'

'Hey (y/n). Yeah, did you know that someone's moving in next door?'

'Really? Halfway through the year?'

'Yeah the moving trucks are all outside.'

I look through the window and sure enough there are moving trucks outside.

Our apartment complex contained all the students who majored in music, each subject had its own apartment complex and so it was highly unusual for someone to move in so suddenly through the year.

'Hmm, I wonder what our new neighbour is gonna be like,' I assumed they would move next door as that apartment had been empty for the whole of this year.

I returned to the notes on my stave and gave another irritated sigh.

'Are you sure you don't want any help?' Melanie asked with concern.

'No it's fine, I swore to my self that we would make it on our own, no matter how little the help may be.'

The next morning, I'm awoken by the pounding noise of heavy drums crashing into my eardrums.

'What the hell?' I say groggily opening my room door to see Melanie opening hers with the exact same look.

We both turn to the wall that seemed to be vibrating.

'Our new neighbour?' I ask.

'Probably.'

'Imma go tell them to shut the fuck up I'll be right back.'

'Ahaha ok but don't be mean, we don't want to bully them on their first day,' Melanie chirps, way too cheerful for this time of the day.

I reply with a grunt and quickly slap on some sweatpants and make my way to the ruckus that seemed to be going on next door.

I knock, three times and loudly. No response. I knock again. No response. I go to knock again when the drumming finally stops.

'Fucking finally,' I mutter under my breath.

The door swings open and a boy with dimples and a nose piercing stands before me.

'Umm.. hello, are you my neighbour? Nice to meet you, the name's Josh,' the guy says, running a hand through his reddish pinky hair and giving me a half smile.

'Um yeah hi, I just came to tell you to tone it down a bit. Not everyone wakes up at this time like a keen bean.'

He giggled and says, 'Sure, sorry. Hey, I don't have many friends round here and I was wondering, since you're so cute, whether you could show me round campus are something? Do you mind?'

Is he flirting with me? ugh I don't have time for this.

'I do mind,' I say curtly and turn on my heel and head back for my own apartment.

Melanie and I walk through the halls together, addressing our morning situation.

'Was he cute though?' She asks, eyes like stars.

'Eh.'

'"Eh"? What do you mean "eh"?'

'Eh he's ok,' I say, laughing at the way her expressions change so suddenly.

We were soon interrupted by that blue haired bully that was somehow extremely likeable to people.
(OKAY WAIT BEFORE I CARRY ON OR GET HATE — I honestly have no opinion on Halsey, I bought her badlands album and can say that I do like her music. I have no opinion on her as a person I just thought might as well put her in her ok sorry bye MOVING ON WITH THE STORY)

'Oh look, it's the emos,' She sniggers at us.

We chose not to say anything as from previous experiences that was the best way to go.

'Oh just leave them alone this one time, Ashley,' Jack Barakat says from behind her, who was previously a very good friend of mine but apparently not good enough to be chosen over Ashley.

I gave Jack a glance and turn around to my next class.

'I'll see ya at home Mel,' I say, waving.

She gives me a painful smile and leaves while Ashley stood there with her squad, laughing.

Once I opened the door to my next class I received big ass smiles from my other best friends sitting at the back row, Brendon and Patrick.

'HEY (Y/N)!!!' Brendon shouted, waving wildy and also receiving weird looks.

'Hey (nickname),' Patrick said, small and shy as he always was. I've know Patrick since we were three years old. We were basically family.

'Hey Beebs, hey Patty,' I respond laughing and patting both their heads while placing my self in between the two of them.

'What's been up with you?' Brendon asks.

'Nothing really, the usual. Oh actually someone moved in next door yesterday.'

'Oh that's unusual, who?

Just as I was about to respond two unfamiliar faces walk through the door.
Although one more familiar than the other.

'Right, good morning class! Let me introduce you to our two new students today,' Our teacher booms, 'this is Tyler,' he says pointing to a brown haired boy who had a little cute aura about him, 'and this is Josh,' he said pointing to our neighbour, who had seemed to have caught my eye and was now smirking.

'Would you like to tell us a bit about yourselves?'

'Well my name is Tyler, I play the ukulele, piano and sing and this guy here,' the brown haired boy said, pointing to Josh, 'is my best fren Josh and he plays drums and we're in a band together ok.' he finishes with his head down.

'Fren?' Patrick whispers to me.

It was at that point where Ashley decided to wolf-whistle which received multiple giggles from the class. You could see the poor ukulele boy going red.

'The one on the right is our neighbour,' I whisper to Brendon and Patrick.

'The one with the funny hair?' asks Brendon.

'Pick a seat, wherever you'd like,' said the teacher.

They made their way down the aisles and it looked like Josh was about to approach me but he was then dragged by Ashley to be seated next to her, and Tyler shyly followed behind.

'Good riddance,' I mutter.
