CHAPTER II - LEGEND OF THE LOST QUESMI

In the morning, Saqui and Rimac travelled to Aa Tlorec to check out the pfarrno. The natives took her to Lake Isekemu.

Hours passed, and the pfarrno did not show itself. She felt she needed to draw it out of the water. She threw a few stones into the lake to try and wake it up.

Her plan worked. The water started to stir. Then, she saw a head surface. It walked out of the lake in front of Saqui.

At first, she was in awe of the sheer size of the creature. Quickly, she put that aside and set out to do what she came to do.

She summoned the Spirit of the Mageeac and drew her sword. She took a swipe at its leg. Just a mere scratch, but it made the pfarrno scream in pain.

It took a swing at her, but she evaded the punch. Clearly, she was the quicker of the two, even without the power of the sixxyk.

She struck again. It scratched the skin but did no real damage.

The pfarrno swung again. This time, he connected. Saqui was sent backwards hundreds of feet. This stunned her, but it also opened her eyes. It was time for her to get serious.

She summoned the powers of all the Great Spirits. She stopped in midair and armored up. She flew back to finish off the creature.

The pfarrno saw her coming back and retreated to the lake. She wanted to pursue it into the lake.

Just before she did, Inalef appeared before her.

"Stop," he said. "You cannot fight this thing underwater. It can breathe underwater; you cannot. It can go much deeper than you can. If it grabs ahold of you, you will die."

"Then what can I do? How can I kill this thing when it retreats? How can I fight underwater if the spirits do not work there?"

"I believe I may have the answer," Rimac intervened. "There is a legend of a seventh Quesmi, one that was never recovered. It is said to give the ability to fight underwater."

"Seventh Quesmi?" Saqui asked. "But I thought there were only six tribes and six Great Spirits."

"There are today. Ages ago, however, there lived a seventh tribe known as the Kosumi. They lived in the great undersea village of Thallius. They chose to live separate from the other tribes.

"To them, the surface world stood for everything they were against. The surface world knew of them, but respected their wished to be left alone."

"What ever happened to them?"

"Eventually, the race died out."

"So, tell me about the lost Quesmi."

"It was said that the lost Quesmi possessed the Spirit of the Rochin. It would give you the ability to swim like a fish and breathe underwater. It was told that only the Chosen One would have the abilities to retrieve it."

"Great. Where is it?"

"I do not know, but I have a map back at the Palace that shows the location of the lost Quesmi."

They returned to the Palace. Rimac searched through the various papers he had until he finally found the map. He laid it out on the table.

"You must travel to Sayarumi. First, you will cross the Sinche River. Your quest will take you through the Forest of Istu, through the Valley of Jolon. The Quesmi is said to be in a cave on Mount Urcucolla.

"But your quest will not be an easy one. The forest is very dangerous. The intense heat in the afternoon will make traveling the valley difficult. And Mount Urcucolla is the highest peak in the Runto Mountains."

"Then, I will leave in the morning."

"You will need help on your journey. Only you may retrieve the stone, but you cannot make this trip alone."

She did not want to put anyone else in harm's way, but she agreed. She told Rimac to assemble a team and have them meet her in Sayarumi. She left shortly thereafter.

In the morning, a group of six people, one from each tribe who had been trained in their tribe's spirit, were assembled.

There was Maicu of the Tobbi, Ayme of the Chican, Utatci of the Hinun, Kayode of the Lefitray, Gosheven of the Wuyi, and Sapay of the Patamon. Gosheven was armed with a bow and arrow; Ayme carried a square-bladed battle axe with a spike at the end of the handle. Maicu carried a war hammer.

They packed their gear and began their long trip to find the sacred stone.
