CHAPTER II - THE TRUCE IS BROKEN

Two days later, Amaru reached the land of Nicabar, home to a race called the Gen Zana. Where the tribes chose to avoid using technology, the Gen Zana thrived on it.

Amaru did not know what land he reached until he docked. He asked to speak to the leader of their people.

"Why should we take you to Jonteau?" one of the Gen Zana asked him.

"I wish to speak with him about a matter concerning your people."

He told them that the tribes were plotting an attack against them. He told them they needed to strike first before the tribes could surprise them and conquer them.

Believing Amaru's threat, he was taken before the leader of the Gen Zana, Jonteau. He told them of the impending attack and that the Gen Zana needed to strike first.

"You would have me break the Great Truce?" Jonteau asked him.

"Better you break the truce and survive than have them break it and kill you."

"What makes you so sure they can defeat us?"

"They have the Chosen One, a queen named Saqui. She has the powers of the six Great Spirits, and she has trained others with such powers. You have great weapons, but they are no match for their skills. If they attack, they will win."

"Then, we must show them how strong we are. In the morning, we leave to attack."

"Might I make a suggestion?" Amaru asked. "Our first attack should be the village of Nielol. It is the land where Saqui came from, and it would send a strong message that you do not fear her."

"Then tomorrow, we leave for Nielol," Jonteau commanded.

Meanwhile, many of the prisoners Amaru had freed had been recaptured and returned to the dikao mines. Saqui was told of this.

"And Amaru?" she asked.

"There has been no sign of him. but we will continue the search in the morning."

Little did they know of his plans for revenge.

In the morning, the Armada of the Gen Zana departed Nicabar. It consisted of nearly a hundred warships, each containing thousands of soldiers, tanks, and a wide array of weapons. It consisted of great aircraft that could rain death from above.

The Armada could travel at greater speeds than any form of transportation the tribes had. Where it took Amaru two days to reach Nicabar, it took the Armada less than one to reach Nielol.

As Calvucura rose, the Gen Zana reached land. Under the cover of darkness, they began their attack on the Chican.

The Chican were caught off-guard and were easily overmatched. The weapons of the Gen Zana were very powerful. Even those trained in the Spirit of the Vidrüsse could not stand up to their firepower.

Many Chican were killed that night. Amaru led a group of Gen Zana to the door of Somoche, Saqui's mother. When she opened the door, Amaru slaughtered her. He was sending a message to his former foe. "I am back, and I am out for revenge."

Amaru ordered them not to kill everyone, just enough to make his point. The Gen Zana could finish them any time they wished. Instead, he wanted Saqui to know he had returned.

Those that did survive fled to the Grand Central Palace. They told Saqui of the attack, how they were surprised and how powerful these people were. They told her of the death of her mother.

She started to grieve again. And again, grief turned to rage. She sought the counsel of Rimac.

"Who are these people who attack my homeland?" she asked.

"Judging by the weapons they described, it can only be one race, the Gen Zana," he answered. "But it makes no sense. Our races have lived in peace for nearly a thousand years. Why would they break the Great Truce?"

"The Great Truce?"

Rimac told her the story of the Great Truce. Hundreds of years ago, the Gen Zana invaded and tried to conquer the six tribes. Led by the great Ezadore, they nearly succeeded. But the heart of the tribes could not be squashed. The tribes joined forces and, even without the powers of the Great Spirits, they defeated the Gen Zana.

The end result of this was the Great Truce signed by the leaders of the six tribes and Ezadore. The Gen Zana would never again invade the tribes' lands, and the tribes would never invade Nicabar.

"Well, it seems that they have broken the Truce. We must build our army to fend off their invasion. Our hearts are strong, and together with the Great Spirits, we cannot and will not be defeated."
