As we grow older most of us lose touch of the naive, wondrous child we used to be. Although we are still the same person, we grow up a little more each day. Before we know it we forget what our favourite animal was in grade two, or the teacher we could not stand in grade four, and even the day in grade six when we got a broken heart. Some things that meant the world to us when we were younger, do not even effect us today. Amazingly we still manage to keep part of our childhood with us, and that is with memories…

I can’t remember much of my childhood, kaleidoscopes of memories flash back at me.

I remember the first princess dress my mom brought home for me

It made me feel beautiful; it set me free

I danced in it for hours, like the princess I wanted to be.

I learned to love the country world, mud from head to toe

It made me feel adventurous; it showed me how to feel alive

I played outside for hours, like the country girl I wanted to be.

I became a swimmer, doggy paddling in my backyard pool

It made me feel invincible; like someday I would conquer the world

I swam in my pool for hours, like the never ending energy I wanted to be.

Time flew by and these days remain as memories, always a special part of me. I’ll never see my big brother walk off the school bus again, or see my grandma smile at me. But some memories last forever, and forever in my heart they will be.
