It was a sunny morning in the green hills of Ireland. I couldn't help but admire the awesomeness of this view from the balcony where I was standing. However there was one view that I preferred over anything else... I stepped back into the bedroom and took a look at the bed. Jean was still asleep.
Breathtaking as always...
She had a faint smile on her face; she probably had a happy dream. Sleeping next to her, in the middle of the bed was Lucy, our four year old daughter. She had a room all to herself but she wanted to sleep with us last night.
Our stay here had been much enjoyable. We arrived a week ago, after our friend Lana had invited us to come stay for a while. Being a politician, she wouldn't be able to join us right away, but she was coming tomorrow. Our friend Kayden would be coming today. She had arrived last night and had decided to walk over here. This meant that she could be arriving within a few hours. Good thing the jet lag enabled her to stay up all night... for now.
I decided to slip back into bad as silently as possible. It wasn't silent enough however to go unnoticed by Jean, who stirred a little and woke up.
"Hey love", she said sleepily, "good morning..."
"Good morning to you too honey, did you sleep well?"
"Well enough I suppose, Lucy was quiet all night."
"That's nice I guess..."
Lucy woke up rather energetically, looking slightly confused at first, but soon knowing exactly where she was.
"Hi!" she said when she noticed us looking at her.
"Hi back," Jean said as she picked our girl up from the bed to get her dressed.
"Is Aunt Kayden here already?"
"Almost," I said, "she should be here within a few hours."
"I can't wait! I haven't seen her in forever!"
"She'll be here before you know it, and I'm pretty sure she'll bring something nice for you."
"Really?"
"Really."
As Jean whisked little Lucy away to get her washed and dressed, I decided to make some breakfast. In other words, I ended up making scrambled eggs and a stack of pancakes, because that's basically all I'm good at. I was almost done when the others walked in.
"Something smells really good, Danny", Jean remarked.
"Why thank you Jeanie", I replied and kissed her.
We started eating the eggs and pancakes, racing each other to see who could eat a pancake fastest. Surprisingly enough, Jean won this time, not that I didn't help her a bit...
Suddenly we were all shot to full attention as a loud bang tore through the air. And then another, and another... and then a crash, as if something really big had just fallen from the sky.
"You two stay here", I said as I got up and ran on to the deck.
About 20-30 meters from the house were the burning remains of what appeared to have been a satellite. I looked up at the sky to try and figure out from where exactly it had come as something else came tearing through the atmosphere. It looked like a ship of sorts... or a strange satellite. I made out a squid like outline. Suddenly it changed its trajectory, it was definitely a ship then... but that couldn't be real. Human technology wasn't capable of making spaceships, because it certainly looked like one.
Aliens perhaps? No! That can't be! No way...
The ship levelled out and started coming here! I had to get Jean and Lucy out of here before things might get out of hand. I ran inside where they still sat anxiously at the table.
