It was finally quiet on the bridge. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem if things get noisy, but between the new crew coming in to introduce themselves and bickering with Lana about accomodations AND Dr. Milka rattling on incessantly about biotoxins and how he would need time to distill enough for military use, the silence felt like heaven.

Hello silence my old friend...

That being said however, I was glad with the extra crew that the previous mission had seen us rewarded with. And since each of them came to fight, Dr. Milka excluded though, they not only replaced our losses, but actually bolstered the numbers of the fighting crew.

Yeah, I should really come up with a better name than fighting crew... maybe war party... or Banshee Marines... hmmmm

That's right; the ship was called the Banshee now. Kayden's suggestion had fallen well with the crew and tomorrow a few of them would go out and spray the name on the outer hull. Of course a logo would be better than a name, but all things in good time.

Lana walked onto the bridge, huffing down in a seat close to the throne.

"I know that politicians are supposed to be patient with people, but whoever wrote that rule clearly never met the new crewmembers." she sighed.

"Can't you just crack down on them? We're on a warship after all." I replied.

"Cracking down on crew is a captain's job."

"And what if I appointed you as my deputy captain or whatever?"

"I'm already the ship's doctor. I don't think the crew would go to the doctor who also hands out punishment."

"A fair point, Dr. O'Sullivan. Perhaps I should appoint another person then."

"Or you could appoint a pilot so you'd be able to walk all over the ship at any given time."

And give up my comfy throne? No way...

"No thank you," I answered. "I like flying, and I don't want someone else crashing my ship."

"Yet you let me sit here when you go down to fight."

"What can I say? I like fighting more."

"All that aside though, if you're so concerned about the well-being of the ship, then why don't you just train another pilot?" Lana remarked.

"First of all," I answered, "I'm not even a professional pilot; I just know how to fly this here spaceship is all. Second: just because I trust you enough to fill in for me when I'm on the ground doesn't mean that I would trust someone else to do the same, whether that person is the best pilot or not."

"Yeah, you were never really big on trust, were you?"

Trust sucks...

"Too many bad experiences... but for what it's worth I trust you and Kayden, and I'm warming up to the crew more, so I'll consider that progress."

"If you ever feel like talking about those experiences, Danny, you know where to find me."

Careful what you wish for...

"Thank you for the offer, Lana, but trust me, you don't want to be inside my head..."

"I understand, but if you ever reconsider, you'll still know where to find me."

Lana turned to leave the bridge again...

Wait! Ask her...
