Joey's POV
"Good Morning everyone, we gathered here today to welcome the newest member of our team, and also the new general accounting manager, Ms. Joey Irvine." Mr. Carter, the accounting supervisor, announced as he passed the microphone to me.
"Hi, Everyone! I am Joey, 24 from New York City." I said in a nervous tone.
"Are you even an american, Ms. Irvine? And how come you're already the General Accounting Manager at your age?" A blonde lady asked.
We are now in the accounting department of Irvine Land Holdings for my first day at work. Don't get me wrong, I do not nor my family owns ILH. It was just a mere coincidence though. Irvine Land Holdings is the second company that I would be working with.
As we all know, I graduated Bachelor of Science in Accountancy and currently studying Law at Yale University in New York City which was a few minute drive from my home in NYC. I am originally from the Philippines. I was born from a Filipino mother and an Australian father, so technically, I was not an american until my parents migrated in New York several years ago for personal reasons.
"Are you okay miss?" Said the same lady distracting me from my thoughts.
"Uhm. Yeah. I mean, I am okay. And to answer the first question, No, I am not. And yes, believed it or not, I am the new Manager, I may seem young for the position though. Now that you don't have further questions, I want to see my office. Thank you everyone." I said attending both of the questions as I passed the Microphone to Mr. Carter while another lady they call by the name Mia stood beside me signaling the way to my office.
--
I walked inside my new office while Mia closed the door.
"Are you okay?" She said with a worried tone.
The company assigned Mia as my new secretary for the mean time. She's a professional, she was the secretary of the former General Accounting Manager so I might as well retain her as my secretary for she knew the flow of my job. Being my secretary I decided to tell her the truth.
"I am really sorry, Mia. I don't feel good that people are questioning me because of my age." I said with all disappointment.
I climb over my office table and felt the smoothness of the wood against my skin. It saddens me how people try to pull me down, why don't they just trust me and let me do my job? I thought.
"It is okay, Ma'am. Look, It is your first day, and you should be enjoying the company of your subordinates just like how a professional lady does." She smiled.
I then stood up without any hesitation. Walked out of my office and gathered my team. Today shall end with a positive vibe specially that I have been struggling to sleep the past nights because of those dreams that left me hanging in confusion for several days now.
~~~
I took my team to a lunch out treat to celebrate my first day as well as to introduce myself again. It was perfect. I got to know them all except the Only Sr. Accountant who were in London for a project. Some of them are oldies while some of them were my age. I guess I would enjoy this job for good if nobody would dare to question my ability once again. Being a 24-year-old GAM is not an easy job, there's a lot of pressure in my shoulders right now and I have to prove them that a youngster like me could kick some ass and run a whole department especially now that they expect a lot from me.
