Girl Meets School

Maya awoke to her mom knocking on her closed bedroom door, signaling for Maya to wake up. Katy did this every morning when the two had somewhere to be. Maya mentally groaned; although she was excited to start a new year here, she still wanted to sleep.

Maya sat up and rubbed her eyes as she stretched. She pulled the covers off her body and stepped onto the wooden floor; her bare feet coming in contact with the cool floor. She stepped to her closet and turned on the light. She looked at all the new clothes she'd bought. She thought a brand new look would start her day off well, so she took out a shirt with glittery sleeves that was connected to a jean jacket. She then took out black leggings and some jean shorts that had a few pre-made rips in them.

Once she changed into her new clothes, she put on her usual black converse and continued on with her normal morning routines until it was time to leave.
Maya couldn't afford a car yet, so her mom drove her. It's always been this way. Most teenagers would feel embarrassed to be seen in their parent's car, but Maya wasn't at all.

Pulling up to the curb of the school, Maya leaned over to her mom and kissed her cheek before the two said their goodbyes. Maya pushed open her door and got out, slinging her black backpack over her shoulder. She closed the car door and began walking up the steps to the entrance of her new school; Abigail Adams High School.

The blonde walked into the school, not yet seeing any students, but an office. She walked towards the office and entered in, walking up to the secretary's desk. "Excuse me, my name is Maya Hart and I'm new here. I was wondering if I could have my schedule please?" Maya asked in a polite manner. "You may, dear." She said, opening on of the many file cabinets that were in a line that reached the back of the entire office.

After finally finding Maya's file, she pulled out a white sheet and handed it to Maya. "Here you are, Maya."
Maya thanked her kindly and walked out of the office and into a hallway. It was a very colorful hallway, actually.
The second she walked in, a group of people crowded her, asking her several questions; such as where she's from, what her name is, if they could see her schedule, and so on.

"Get to class!" A man behind the group said, standing by a doorway of what Maya guessed was a class room. The group quickly separated and hurried off to homeroom. The remaining students were either having troubles with their locker or scrambling to homeroom.

"I'm sorry about them, they're just curious." The man sighed and walked towards the young blonde. He furrowed his eyebrows and asked, "Aren't you Maya Hart, the new student?"

Maya nodded, a little confused. "Well, I'm Mr. Matthews and I'm your homeroom and history teacher. It's very nice to meet you Maya." He said, putting out his hand for Maya to shake.

"It's nice to meet you too, Mr. Matthews."

"Do you need help with anything? Finding your locker or the classroom?" Mr. Matthews asked her. "I'm fine, but thank you." Maya said, politely declining his offer.

"Okay, well if you need anything- actually..." He trailed off, looking off to the side and pointing. "That's my daughter, Riley. She's a very nice girl and I'm sure she'll be more than happy to help you out with anything you need." He said, pointing to a brunette that was opening her locker. Maya smiled a small smile. "Thank you, Mr. Matthews." "Anytime, Maya. Get to homeroom when you can, okay?" Maya nodded before Mr. Matthews walked off.

Maya took a look at her schedule, seeing which locker was hers. '106' the black ink read. The blonde looked up, seeing that the locker was on the right of the brunette's. She walked over to the locker and slowly put in her combination, making sure it was right.

The brunette next to her was rummaging around in hers as Maya opened her locker. Maya took her backpack off of her shoulder and unzipped it, taking out her school supplies that she bought before she moved and put them into her locker. Once most of the items were in, she kept the things she's need for today in her backpack.

She closed her locker and put her backpack back on her shoulder. She turned around just as Riley shut her locker door which was once the only thing separating the two. Maya, out of instinct, looked at Riley as looked at her. Riley's warm, brown eyes met Maya's cold, light blue ones. It was as if a warm summer was embracing Maya when she looked into the brunette's eyes. And Maya's icy eyes sent chills down Riley's spine; a warm fall and a sunny winter had collided.

"Hi." Maya said to the taller girl standing before her, not breaking her gaze.

"Hi." Riley said back to the girl who was shorter than her by a few inches.
"I'm Riley." Riley said, sticking out her hand for Maya to take. "And I'm Rile- Maya. I'm Maya." The blonde said shyly, a light shade of pink appearing on her cheeks. Riley giggled as Maya shook her hand. The sound sent Maya's already erupting butterflies wild.

Riley's hands were soft, and they fit perfectly in Maya's; like puzzle pieces that had finally found each other.
The two didn't quite know how or why, but they both knew in this moment that there was an instant connection between the two of them, and neither wanted to let it go.

Being lost in a moment, the blonde and the brunette didn't notice that the bell had rung, signaling that homeroom was over and sending students scrambling throughout the hallway.

But still; the two didn't break their gaze. They wanted to cherish this, whatever it was. But the two knew that they had to break it. Riley was the first to break their gaze. "Are you new here? I've never seen you around before, and this locker has always been empty." Riley said, tapping on Maya's locker.

"Yes, I'm new." Maya confirmed. "Cool! May I take a peek at your schedule?" Riley said. Maya thought she saw a slight blush on the girl's cheeks, but she shook it off, thinking it was her imagination that always seemed to be running wild in situations like this. Although, Maya had been in these types of situations, this one was like no other. This was different and special.

Maya quickly shook off all of her thoughts that clouded her mind. She shouldn't be thinking about anything like this. These kinds of thoughts trigger bad memories from the past and besides, she just met the girl!

Maya nodded and handed the taller girl her schedule. Riley's chocolate brown orbs scanned the sheet of paper, and Riley instantly smiled, returning the paper back to the shorter blonde when she was finished.
"We have homeroom, history, art, gym, lunch, a study hall, science, and English together!" Riley said excitedly.

Maya felt a rush of relief. At least she had most of her classes with a friend. Wait, friend? The two hardly know anything about each other! The only thing they know are each other's names. Maybe not yet friends, but acquaintances.

Maya smiled brightly at the taller girl, which made Riley smile even more.
"So I suppose we should head to our classes, hm?" Riley suggested as there were only a few students left in the hallway. "That'd probably be best." Maya giggled. "I'll walk you to your next class?" Riley offered.

Maya didn't want her to be late for her next class, she'd feel really bad about that. But she wanted Riley to stay with her, throughout the entire day. She didn't want to be separate from her. "Wow Maya, clingy much?" She thought to herself.

Maya was already very comfortable with Riley. So, her answer was an automatic yes.

Riley put her arm out for Maya to link it with hers.

"Shall we?" Riley asked, looking over at the blonde standing beside her.

"We shall." Maya giggled.
