"Oh my God, Megan!" I screamed as she turned another sharp corner.

We were on our way to the city centre to watch a new film we all wanted to see, before heading to a party afterwards.

"Sorry!" She repllied, "I only just got my licence." She stopped talking as she concentrated on turning the radio station over. Radio 1 was our favourite, it was the only one that played good music in our area. A song by Imagine dragons was playing and she turned up the music.

"Well, just try not to kill us." I said hoping she would take me serious. She always seems to think I'm joking.

"Yeah yeah," she sighed "It's meant to be one of the parties of the year anyway, can't miss it." She laughed.

Actually, I'd heard that too. To be honest I don't know who's party it is or how we got invites, I think it must've been through friends. I want to see who else is there though, probably all of the younger ones and a couple our age.

"Who's party is it?" I asked Megan, so I could buy them a present before we go into the cinema.

"Jack." she replied. I stared at her blankly. Jack? Who was Jack? I know a lot of Jacks. She must've seen my expression because she began to explain more. "Jack Cross, the guy in the college next to our old one. He's turning 18 so they're having a massive party."

Okay, a boy, called Jack. Yep, still don't know what to get him, maybe just some money? Or one of those presents they sell in card shops with milestone ages on them. I don't even know but I guess time will tell as Meg just pulled into the car park.

She walked over to get a parking ticket, then returned, placing it in the window and grabbing her purse. She waited for me to get out and then we started walking towards the place we meet our friends, just outside Starbucks.

We were meeting four of our friends, Jacob, Abbey, Sol and Luke. Jacob, Jay for short, and Abbey were dating, so were Sol and Megan. Then it left me and Luke, I guess we were just like we were dating but we weren't. I mean, we would hold hands and act in love, we would only do it to take the piss out of the others but it kinda became normal. We decided we're more friends with benefits.

"Luke text me saying he and Sol have just gone off to a sports shop and will be there in five" I told Megan, reading the text aloud.

"I guess it'll be just Jay and Abbey to start then." She replied as we got closer to starbucks.

"Jay is that what you really think of me?" We heard someone shout as we arrived at the corner.

"Well it wouldn't be if you weren't such a..." There was a pause for a minute, "Slut!" I was sure I knew who it was, but couldn't see them. Sure enough, though, at the side of Starbucks, Jay and Abbey were on war mode.

"Slut? I am not a fucking slut! How can you even believe it?!" Abbey shot a glare towards Jay and I could see she was starting to cry. Apparently Megan could also see this as she rushed to her side. I decided it's only fair for me to go to Jay.

"Oh, you know perfectly well why!" He shot back and I grabbed his shoulder in an attempt to calm him down. It was working until Abbey started up again.

"Well I guess you're attracted to sluts after all, eh? Of course, you sleeping with five a night made your dad proud but that doesn't give you the right to slag me off!" Ouch.

Jay's dad died a few years ago in a motorcycle accident and he's been living with his grandparents since. I looked up to this his face and could see he was getting weaker.

"Fine!" He shouted one last time, his voice quivering. "We're over." He said loud enough for all of us to hear, bur without shouting.

Oh my God did they just break up?

Abbey was already walking off as Megan sent a sorry look our way and darted off to follow. Jay was just standing there, trying not to cry. I put my arms around him and he hugged back, maybe for to long, but I let it slide.

"Coffee?" I asked nodding towards Starbucks, he didn't say anything, just started walking in. He stopped at the door and looked at me. Then he walked to a bench and sat down, I followed and sat beside him.

"You're my best friend right?" he asked, making me jump.

I just nodded and smiled at the ground.

"Will you, tell me honestly then?"

"Tell, you what?"

"Is what she said true? About my dad."

"No," i sigh. " You did sleep around a lot, but you changed, Jay."

"Why though? What's the point if I can't get a steady relationship?"

"You're 18, you don't need a steady relationship yet."

"Meg and Sol have one."

"Doesn't mean everyone else has to."

He used the sleeves of his jacked to wipe his bloodshot eyes. His messed up hair was in his face. "We need to get you ready for tonight!" I said, suddenly.

"But-"

"Forget the cinema. We only have a few hours."

I dragged him off to the bus stop and texted everyone to say we were leaving. A party was the best way to get over a break up.
