The weapon shone brightly as amber coloured sparks flew about. Wendy blinked severally, watching with rapt attention as a weird looking being dangled from his neck.
Because the prong had hooked the creature to the wall, he kept flaying his arms and legs, trashing tiny wings wildly in the process.

The imp's attempts to remove the prong proved abortive. Each time he attempted to handle it, his hands kept getting scotched by the heat of the prongs.
Wendy marveled at how the spirit looked so much like a baby.

He would have possessed a completely innocent look but for his pointy ears, batty wings and fanglike teeth he kept gnashing in the most grating manner. The eyes of the spirit had no sclera; it was totally black.

Jade flew forward in blinding speed then thundered at the spirit. "THE LORD REBUKE YOU!"

"Please!" the spirit screeched, fear emanating from the creature like a force field.

"Please, I beg you. I'll leave and I'll never come back. I swear." The spirit gushed, imploring the angel with huge black eyes.

Jade silently regarded the imp with eyes ablaze with righteous anger; at that moment there was nothing cheery or friendly about her. She looked gloriously frightening as she pressed the prong deeper into the wall and spoke in the most menacing voice Wendy had ever heard.

"This one time...I'm letting you go because I wasn't instructed otherwise, not because of mercy." The angel spat as she dislodged the burning weapon in one swift move. The wall appeared normal, leaving no evidence that it was pierced only seconds ago.

Wendy saw the tiny spirit wheeze and cough as he regarded Jade with terrified eyes so full of hate and fear. "This is not over," he hissed before instantly vanishing in a puff of black smoke.

Wendy's mouth was still hanging open in shock and wonder as Jade hit the base of the prong on the tiled floor. The weapon immediately transformed back to the miniature jewelry it was.

Wendy also noticed with relief that Jade no longer appeared angry; in fact, she donned a calm demeanor that was impossible to relate to the terrifying angel she saw only seconds ago.

"Don't look so surprised my dear. This is nothing on the scale of what we face on frequent basis. That was an imp not even a demon," Jade said with a dismissive wave of her hand as she buried the prong in her hair.

"He would be back," Jade said absent mindedly.

"Huh? I thought he swore not to come back?" Wendy was beginning to worry. She didn't want that thing near her mum again.

"That spirit you saw is totally evil. Lying is not his second nature. Lying is his nature."

"After all you did? How can he be bold enough to come back? Isn't he scared?" Wendy was perplexed. She saw the terror in the imp's eyes. Why would he ever want to come back? What did he even want with her mum?
"Yes. He was scared, but fear does not last in those ones. They always wait for another opportunity to come back. We have to leave now" Jade moved towards her mother's bedside as she spoke.

"Why are we leaving? I thought we'd stay for a while." Worry laced Wendy's voice.

She watched Jade dig a hand into what appeared to be a pocket on her robe and retrieve a card. She began studying its content with a small smile playing on her lips.
Wendy was guessing it was the same card she was with at the utility room.

She noted that her mother had dozed off on the chair so she didn't see her school bag open as Jade quietly placed the card in it. Jade straightened and faced her, with her beautiful smile still in place.

"Now that the imp is gone, we're certain he wouldn't know I dropped that. No one is praying for your mum. Your grandma's hypocritical prayer doesn't even reach the roof. The only way I could place any hint that could help your mum in the trial that's coming was by frightening the imp away. He would be back and he would certainly bring more of his kind with him," Jade said as she shook her head with sympathy.

Wendy had a thousand questions buzzing in her head. Why was that card so important? Why did they have to leave her mum? What did her mum do to whoever sent the imp?

"Your questions would be answered in time, Wendy. Just be assured that God loves your mum and only He can take care of her just right. Now, give me your hand," the angel said as she extended her hand towards her.

Wendy grasped it immediately. She didn't understand anything that was going on but she trusted that everything would be fine.

☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

The imp gathered momentum as he flew into the clouds with fear strengthening his wings and propelling him. As he burst out of the first layer of clouds, his black eyes scanned the atmosphere.

He narrowed his eyes as he saw heavy dark clouds at the far west. He began flying in the direction with great speed.
His mind was still clouded with the terror of what he just faced. He couldn't even begin to consider the rage of his master.

'The Lord rebuke you!' The words of the angel kept attacking his mind like the bangs of a cannon. The angel was... oh so terrifying! After decades of darkness, why was it that on the very day he was given a second chance the Lord's angel had to come and start rebuking him?

He wailed in anguish as he darted forward blindly. He didn't even know what to fear more; his master's fury or an angel's wrath?

"Why me? Oh, why me?" The imp moaned in anguish. The Image of a glowing prong and a terrifying angel kept torturing his mind. Were there more? His mouth went dry with fright at the possibility. He didn't want to go back to the outer darkness, it was even more terrible there...or was it?

"I will do all within my power! I'll pour all the anguish I bore for decades on her puny little soul. I swear I will!" Depression shouted his threats as he flew. He closed his eye with glee and grinned at the very thought.

He could feel her very life ebbing away as he feeds the grieving woman's soul with everything dark, depressing and hopeless. After all... his name was Depression, the imp thought with derision.

CLANG!

Depression groaned in pain as he flew back from the force of collision. Opening his dazed eyes, he realized he had reached his destination- rather painfully though.

He rubbed his nose, groaning even more as he noticed black liquid was dripping from both nostrils.

The gate stood before him with more dark clouds swirling above it. He gulped as he raised a tiny shaky hand to handle the cold, rusted knocker attached to the gate. He knocked twice. Swallowing hard again, Depression hoped his master wasn't home.

The gate was made of rusted iron; gnarled metal vines intertwined like a colony of snakes formed the entire gate. There were horrid looking thorns sticking out in several places and a black skull hung at the crest of the gate. Depression felt as if the skull was looking down at him with its empty eye sockets.

When he raised his hand to knock once more, the gate suddenly came alive!
