Chapter 17
3rd person POV
It was truly a sight to behold. For some, it meant near victory. For others, it meant the certain doom of a comrade. Of course, no one would really know the outcome of the seekers' sparks until Ratchet arrived on the scene.
Not one of the Autobots who had arrived from Earth knew what Nightstrike had been planning when they saw her advance on Starscream from where they stood at the base of the command center. The explosion made them each panic, and the crash sent each of them into action. Optimus and Ratchet sifted through the wreckage while Arcee, Bulkhead, and Bumblebee stood guard. A moment later Prowl and Ultra Magnus arrived. With no time for reunions, they helped search.
After a while, the debris had been sorted into two piles: the mangled remains of Starscream and the mostly intact body of Nightstrike. Her left leg was the only thing not connected to her body, but, unfortunately, her torso had taken the bulk of the damage.
"Is there anything that can be done for her?" Optimus asked Ratchet.
Those two were the closest things Nightstrike had to friends amongst the Autobot ranks. They trusted her. She had already felt pain for the pair once before. Now, she had made the ultimate sacrifice for them all.
The orange and white medic hung his head. "I'm sorry," he said solemnly. "Her spark has already ceased all functioning."
They all stood in silence for what felt like an eternity to anyone looking on. They were without words.
"Sorry to interrupt," Prowl apologized, "but a Decepticon warship just entered Cybertron air space."
Optimus looked up, and sure enough, there was the Nemesis. "Megatron," he said angrily as he clenched his fists. He addressed the Autobots, "Her sacrifice will not have been in vain! Get that ship out of the sky. Prowl, I need every enforcer on hand for detainment." Optimus gingerly picked up Nightstrike's body and her detached limb and carried them inside. "Till all are one."
