"Money is Money Jai"-
"It's not the money...It's how you get it. I'm just seventeen, I'm pregnant. There's a lot of ways to get money but I choose to do it legally. It's called a JOB. So when I get paid, I earned it."She preached. I listened, But I wasn't listening.
"Grindin' IS a job"I spoke. I knew arguing with her wasn't smart, But I was low-key in the clouds. I don't remember how it happened, But Stunna ended up dropping me off at my crib. I haven't exactly told my mom about the baby,
Or Jailyn. I'm tryna make it out for me first.
JAILYN
( The following week )
"What time's he comin'?"Lisa asked as she helped me get ready for my appointment. Today we find out the gender of the baby.
"Okay! I'm ready!"Zae announced as she came out of her bedroom.
"You not goin' "Lisa spoke to her daughter. Zae looked at her mother confusedly.
"Why?"-
" 'Cause you gotta go see YO daddy"She spoke.
"I'm tired'a seein' him! He get on my nerves"She exclaimed. "I mean, He buy me stuff, But then expect information. Like, Get outta my life, You're not relevant"She added, Speaking more to Lisa.
I mean, I couldn't relate...I never had a Dad.
"Well, After the appointment, I gotta drop Jai off at work"-
"Okay"-So we were all going, Just waiting on Sammy...
SAMMY
I woke up as I felt my phone vibrating. Jai was calling me.
"Hello"-
"Where are you?"She asked curiously, She sounded irritated.
"At home..."I answered, Not sure of what she wanted me to say. She scoffed at the other end of the phone. She was quiet...Which made me nervous.
"The appointment"She spoke
That's it...I forgot.
"The appointment? Yeah! What about it? I'm on my way right now."I lied. I got up and began to pick out some clothes while I was on the phone.
"My appointment is at ten thirty"She spoke. I could hear it in her voice, She was mad. I pulled my phone from my ear and looked at the time. It was ten twenty.
"I'm on my way...Right now"
I said, Rushing out. Why does this keep happening to me?
JAILYN
"See...He get on my nerves! At's just how her Daddy was too. Always makin' excuses!" Lisa spoke. I was agitated, but I can forgive.
We all turned as a car pulled up, It was Sammy. I stepped out first, Zae behind me and Lisa locked the door. Sammy got out of the car and came toward me. He opened his arms and tried to give me a hug, I pushed him away by his chest.
"She's mad at you"Alizae spoke up, Stating the obvious. I went and got into Sammy's car while Alizae and Lisa got into Lisa's car.
"Wassup"Sammy greeted as he got into the driver's seat. Yes, I was quite salty about his childish behavior. So me being the mature woman I am...I didn't respond. He was quiet as he drove, I payed attention to my phone as it laid in my lap.
"Jai"-
"What?"-
"Hi"-I slightly waved, Not ready to interact with him yet.
"Wassup wit' you?"He asked, Continuing to press the issue.
"Nothin' "I said plainly.
"So you not mad at me?"He questioned.
"I said nothin' was wrong. Drop it. Leave it alone"I snapped at him. He sighed and mumbled something under his breath, But I wasn't going to argue with him while he was driving.
We arrived at the doctor's office minutes later. I got out hurriedly. Lisa and Zae met me-us at the door. Being pregnant and angry don't necessarily mix. Sammy trailed behind us as we entered the office. I didn't want to show other people that I was upset because I wasn't, I was hurt. I told him ahead of time about the appointment, He volunteered to drive me, I didn't ask him. So for him to be late, It shows that he doesn't pay attention. Like it's not important to him.
The desk clerk was a young lady she looked typical. Whatever that means...
"How may I help you?"She asked politely.
"I have a ten thirty appointment with Dr. Sims"I spoke to her. She glanced from me to Sammy who stood next to me.
"Alright, I'll tell her you're here"She said, Smiling.
I glanced over at the clock which read ten thirty. Of course Sammy wasn't paying attention, He was on his phone. We all sat in the chairs of the waiting room. We didn't wait long either, It seemed like as soon as we sat down, She came out. She invited us all back.
"So, Is this Michael?"She asked curiously, Motioning toward Sammy. I nodded yes. Sammy looked up
from his phone.
"Congratulations!"She spoke. "I'm Nia Sims"She introduced herself. She shook Sammy's hand. I could tell he didn't want to be there, He was on his phone majority of the time.
SAMMY
I watched as Jai laid down. She followed the instructions of the doctor. She pulled her shirt up, Revealing her baby bump. The doctor slipped on latex gloves before she rubbed jelly stuff all over her stomach. She got her equipment out, I looked down at my phone as Stunna texted me.
STUNNA: Aye yo mama came by looking fo u today
ME: What she want?
STUNNA: Ion know
I should probably call my Mom. She don't exactly know about Jai, Or the baby. She'd kill me. I am only eighteen. But it is what it is...
I looked up as Lisa grabbed my phone, She snatched it out of my hand...Ooo, She's lucky we was in public. I fought my inner killer and looked up as the doctor moved some type of device on Jailyn's stomach. On the little t.v a little body appeared. It was moving...
"D'you hear that?"The doctor asked. "It's the baby's heartbeat"She answered. "Okay, Now let's see if we can see..."She got closer to the screen, Moving the little object on Jai's stomach. "Do you see that?"She questioned. "C'mere Daddy...Come see your baby...Boy!"She announced, I couldn't really tell, But if that's what it is...I have a son.
