FoxTrotChapter Two: Study Time
(Booker's POV)
The clock read 4:35. I was supposed to meet Kal at his apartment by 5:00.
I threw my backpack over my shoulder and stuck my wallet and phone in my jean pockets.
"Maybe I'll stop by The Feline Café and get Kal and I some coffee before I go over to his apartment?" I thought to myself, making my way down the stairs. It was only 3:40 and I could make it to the Café and still get to Kal's in time.I walked pass Kal's floor and trotted out into the city streets, turning right and making my way to The Feline Café. They have the best coffee on this side of the city, besides Katbucks that is, which is on the NW side of FoxTrot.
The smell of rich cream and freshly brewed coffee filled the air near The Feline Café. I work a couple of buildings down at the FoxTrot Bookstore so I come here a lot before or after work.
I opened the door to the building and walked in. The lady at the counter greeted me with a cheerful hello. "Hello, Mia. How are you today?"
"I'm doing fantastic Booker. Thanks for askin'!"
I walked to the counter. "I'll take two caramel mocha cappuccinos to go please." I said. Mia turned around and began making the drinks. I looked at the clock on the wall, 4:49. "I got it made." I said to myself. Shortly after ordering the drinks, Mia was done with them. "That will be $7.74 plus a tip!"
"I don't have to tip you, Mia." I said smirking. "I know, but you know you want to." She said handing me my coffee. She wasn't wrong, I was gonna tip her anyway.
I gave her the money and a dollar for a tip and I trotted out the door into the busy sidewalk, making my way back to the apartment complex. The elevator was still broken so I had to take the stairs. I found Kal's apartment and lifted my paw to the door. *Knock knock knock* "Come in!" I heard Kal say. I opened the door to be greeted by him. "Hey Book." he said. "Hey, Kal." I replied. Kal instantly saw the coffee and yanked one out of my paw. "Book! No way, you got me coffee?! You're such a great friend!" he said with enthusiasm, sipping the coffee.
We sat down at Kal's kitchen table and he pulled out some study sheets. "Okay so question 17?" Kal asked, laying them on the table. "Oh, well that's easy. The answer is 6." I said, confident about my answer. "How did you do that so fast?" He asked very shocked. "I'm good at math Kal. I have a 97.34% in Mr. Pawhiser's class." I said smiling. We continued to work on some math problems for a few hours.
I looked at the clock, it read 7:30. "I think that's enough for one night." Kal said. I looked at Kal and replied, "Yeah. We should stop." Kal put all of his papers back into a folder in his backpack.
"So Book, did you hear that you're getting new neighbours?"
"No, who's moving in?"
"Two furs. A boy and a girl."
"Really? That's pawesome! I'll be happy to meet them!"
Kal and I talked for another good hour about all sorts of stuff. We never had a dull moment when we were talking. He would always tell me about new advances in technology and videogames. I liked learning about everything new coming out.
I pulled out my phone and looked at the time. It was 8:30. "I better get going Kal." I said. Kal replied, "Okay. See you at the University tomorrow. Night." "Night." I said, walking out of Kal's apartment and making my way up the stairs.
I walked into the cold living room and reached my paw over to the wall and flicked on a light switch. The lights came on and I walked over to the air conditioner and turned it off for a moment. I put my put my paws together and moved them back and forth. The friction created some heat. It was really cold in the room.
I walked over to the refrigerator and searched through it, talking out a small salmon fillet. I removed it from its plastic packaging and turned on the stove, removing a pan from a rack above the island in the middle of the kitchen, and set it on top of the open flame, and put the fish into the pan. It took a bit to cook and once it was finished I ate.
I watched TV until 9:30 and went up stairs. I plugged my phone in and striped off my shirt when it began to ring. I looked at it's screen. Kal was calling. I was confused. Kal normally is in bed by now.
I tapped the green answer button and lifted the phone to my ear.
"Hey Kal. Is everything okay?" I asked a little worried.
"...n-no...s-someone broke into m-my apartment. I'm hiding in my c-closet."
"Oh my God! I'll be there soon!"
I ended the call and ran out my bedroom door and down the stairs, grabbing a knife from the knife rack on the counter.
I ran down the stairs to the third floor and opened the door to Kal's apartment very slowly. I didn't see anything except for a chair that was tipped over. I walked into his apartment quietly and slowly shut the door behind me. I held the knife close to my chest and walked deeper into the room. There was only one lamp on in the living room, which made it hard to see around the kitchen. I made my way toward the stairs that lead to his room with the knife still pressed against my fluffy chest.
I walked up the stairs to Kal's room. It was dark down the small hallway and the door to his room was shut. I opened the door slowly and stepped inside.
"B-Booker? Is that you?" He said, his voice shaky.
I saw Kal open the small closet door and poke his head out.
"Yeah. Its me." I said.
Kal walked out of the closet and walked over to me. "Dear God I thought I was a gonner!" Kal said. I layed the knife down on his dresser. "What happened?" I asked.
"A guy broke into my apartment. I heard it so I went and hid in the closet. Then I called you. He left not long after you got here. Um, by the way, where's your shirt?"
I blushed hard. "Oh...well, when you called I was getting ready for bed." I said, my cheeks getting brighter. Kal blushed too and I put my paw behind my head and rubbed nervously. "Okay. I should be okay now. I'll call the K-9. Maybe they can find out who did this."
Kal pulled out his phone and called the K-9. They arrived not long after. A officer came to the door and knocked. He walked inside and began to ask us both some questions and told him everything that happened and he said that he would have some officers look through the security cameras. He left afterwards and me and Kal talked about what happened.
I left his house by 10:45 and went back to my place. I walked through the door to my room and sat on my bed, stripping down to my boxers and layed down as I began to think of all the things that have happened. I wrapped my tail around myself and fell asleep, still thinking about everything that happened today and hoped that Kal would be okay.
