Chapter Four: Accidents

(Kal's POV)

I pressed the call button on my phone by Booker's name. The call started and I placed the phone against my ear. Booker picked up, "Hello?"

"Hey Book! What's up?"

"Not too much. Just walking down to the Café. How about you?"

"Not much though. just woke up."

"Kal are you serious? You Just woke up? It's 12 O'clock!"

"Yeah..."

He laughed, "Hey, You should meet me at the Café!"

"Okay, I will. See you in a little while, Book!"

I ended the call and set my phone down on my dresser. I pulled out a blue T-Shirt and some grey jeans and boxers and went to the bathroom. I hopped in the shower and cleaned myself.

I finished my shower and dried myself off. I took a brush and brushed my tail and head fur. I like my fur extra fluffy so I alway make sure to brush it really well. I walked out of the bathroom and went to my room to get my phone. I saw a text from Booker on the screen.

Booker: Hey Kal. Wat do u want 2 drink?

I texted him back: I'll take a caramel iced coffee.

I put the phone into my pocket and walked down stairs. My phone went off and I checked the message, it was from Booker again.

Booker: OK. I got ya m8.

I blushed soflty at that and walked out of the apartment and down the stairs. I trotted down the sidewalk to The Feline Café. I walked inside of the sweet smelling building, the smell of coffee filled my nose. Booker was sitting at a table for two. He waved his paw in the air at me and his big, bushy tail started to wag. I sat down at the table with Booker. "Hey, Kal," he said with a smile. "Hey, Booker," I replied blushing again.

He's so cute...

Booker handed me my coffee. I began to sip on it when I heard someone call Booker's name. "Booker!" the girl said. She walked up to the table we were sitting at. "Oh, hey, What's up?" he said. "Not much. Just thought I'd come and get me and Stark some coffee. Oh, who's this?" the blue-furred wolf questioned. Booker motioned his paw toward me and then to the wolf. "Kalvin, Lilly. Lilly, Kalvin." he said. I looked at Lilly and back to Booker. "Well I better get going. Starks probably wondering were his coffee is. It was nice meeting you, Kalvin. Talk to you later Booker!" Lilly said. "Bye!" Booker replied. Booker looked at me, "What's wrong Kal?" he asked.

I hate being around people. The only reason I wasn't so freaked out when Booker talked to me was because I felt like he was a good guy. He was always polite and was never mean or anything. Plus I did have a bit of a crush on him. I was quite happy when he talked to me. I never talked to him because I thought he was one of those 'Popular Kids'. However, I found out quickly that he wasn't. I'm really glad I met Booker.

"Oh, sorry Book. You know how I am around people." I said sheepishly. He looked at me a moment then spoke, "I understand Kal. She's my new neighbor. Her and her brother Stark. You really should meet them. They are really nice." "Okay." I said, sipping on my iced coffee. "How about dinner at my apartment this Saturday? Six O'clock?" Booker asked. "Sure, That'd be fun!" I replied.

I was really excited about Booker inviting me. I really wish I could tell him how I feel... but I don't think I should...

We both finished our coffee and went back home. I walked into my cold apartment and sat on the couch then grabbed the TV remote and turned on the TV. FT news was on and there was a reporter announcing a tragic accident.

"Good evening to eveveryone. I am Alex Mockson and this is FoxTrot news. We kick off the evening with a tragic accident. A building on the west side of FoxTrot has catched fire and has fallen. Seventeen furs were injured and thirty-four have died. The cause of the accident is unknown, however, the K-9 officers on scene say that it was possibly started in the basement of the facility. The facility was a factory for computer chips and screens."

"Damn," I whispered to myself. I couldn't believe it... I worked at that building for about a year. I was part of the computer chip manufacturing team. To see that it had burned down saddened me.

I picked up my phone and called Booker.

"Hey Kal, What's up?"

"Did you see the news?"

"No, what's on the news?"

"Do you remember that computer chip and screen factory I worked at?"

"Yes, why? What happened?"

"It burned to the ground..."

"Wait? How?"

"I don't know Booker. They didn't know. The K-9 officers are on the scene."

"Okay, we need to go down there. Maybe see what happened?"

"Okay, I'll meet you outside!"

I hung up the phone and ran out the door. I got outside and waited for Booker. He didn't take long and was out there fairly quick. He ran to the side of the road and yelled, "Taxi!" A taxi pulled up and we hopped inside. "Take us to the old computer chip and screen factory." Booker said. The taxi driver nodded and drove us to the old factory on the west side of FoxTrot.

The building was in ruins. It was three stories tall and now it was in a huge pile of rubble. A thick, grey smoke surround the area around it. Officers and Firefighters surrounded the area too. The fire was gone and they were looking for any survivors.

"I-I can't believe something like this would happen. It seems strange..." I said looking at Booker. He replied, "Yeah...I agree Kal. Hopefully the K-9 unit can catch who did this." A large K-9 officer came over to us and spoke, "Excuse me but you two need to leave." We both looked at the officer. "Oh...sorry sir. We just wanted to see what happened." Booker said. "It's quite alright. I wouldn't mind but this place is dangerous." the officer said.

We left the site and called another Taxi, however, none came. We had to walk back home. Booker and I were walking when we saw two furs come out of a small ally. "Hey! You two! C'mere!" said one of the furs. We turned around and began to walk off. We heard them follow us. "Hey! I said get the yiff over here!" the other fur spoke. "Just leave is alone!" Booker said. One of the furs pulled out a pocketknife. "You wanna talk back to me one more time wolfie?!" the one with the pocketknife said. "Look...we...d-don't want any t-trouble..." I said with a shaky voice. "Yeah? Well maybe we do!" the fur with the pocketknife replied. He lunged at Booker and the other one came after me. He tackled me to the ground and put his paws around my neck. I could barely see Booker. He had the fur pinned up against the wall. My vision began to fade from the lack of oxygen. What I saw before I blacked out I would never forget...
