Fox Trot
Chapter Six: Goner
(Booker's POV)
I stared down into the pit, my tears falling into the abyss. I could no longer see Kal. He was gone, lost in the darkness of the seemingly never ending pit. I could no longer hear his screams. I got up and looked down for a moment longer before walking to the building behind me, leaning against it. My eyes began to water again. I heard thunder and it began to rain. The smell of fresh rain filled my nose. I looked at the large gap in the road, tears filling my eyes once more. "He's really gone..." I said to myself. I heard a loud Crack and felt a blunt object hit me in the head.
A hand pressed to my chest. I felt it shake me. I could hear voices, people saying inaudible things. The hand shook me harder. I only saw darkness. The air was cold and dry, I felt my nostrils burn at every breath. I thought I heard my name, but I was not sure. I saw a thin line of light, and I opened my eyes, looking around slowly. Everything was blurry. Something grabbed my hand and squeezed. "Booker," I head a voice ask in question. My body was numb and I couldn't move. I heard a sharp beep, my ear twitching at the sound. My eyes slowly opened and a bright light forced me to squint. I looked around the bright room. I was laying in a hospital bed, my family surrounded me. My mom had her paw on my chest and I felt a warm, wet substance on my shoulder. She had been crying. I looked up at her still squinting and spoke "M-Mom...?" My voiced trailed off. My dad stepped behind her and put a paw on her shoulder. "Get the nurse," my mom said softly to my dad. He walked out of the room and got the nurse quickly. The nurse walked into the room and stood to my right. "Feeling better Booker?" she asked smiling. I answered with a soft yes and she checked my pulse and blood pressure before leaving and bringing me back some water. I drank it slowly.
Two days later I was released from the hospital. It turnes out I was hit with a lamp post. The cracks in the ground made it fall. I had a concussion so they kept me at the hospital. The news had constantly released new news every day. At one time they had a list of people who died. Kal's name flashed across the screen and the news anchor anounced it. Chills went up my spine when I saw it. I remebered how we had kissed right before the road cracked and he died. I turned the T.V. off and went to bed. I removed my shirt and pants and was left in just my boxers. I wrapped my large tail around my body and fell asleep quickly.
I woke up the next morning and looked around my room. The sun was beaming through the window and lit up my bedroom. I sat up in bed and streatched before getting up and getting ready for school.
I walked down the sidewalk towards the college, my lage tail swaying behind me. There were a few students outside waiting for school to start. They were all chatting among themselves. I walked up to a small group and they greeted me nicely. "Hey Booker," said Josh. He introduced me to the rest of the group, which consisted of two girls and another guy. The other guy was the one that caught my eye. His name was Erus. He was a deer fur with red eyes. I blushed softly when I look into them, and I'm pretty sure he noticed. He gave me a smile and shook my paw. "It's nice to meet you Booker," he said nicely. "It's nice to meet you too Erus," I said back. "And it's nice to meet all of you," I said, shifting to the whole group. Josh looked down and back up and looked me in the eyes. "I'm sorry about Kal," he began. "He was a really great guy." I looked down and my eyes watered a bit. "Y-Yeah, it's okay," I said. Erus nudged my arm and I look up at him. "It'll be alright Booker," he said with a smile. I looked into his red eyes again. I felt myself blush softly again. "Y-Yeah," I softly said.
I followed Erus to our next class. We had chemistry class together. The teacher was Mr. Laglace, probably one of the craziest teachers in the school. He was always so hyper from drinking so much coffee. We walked into the classroom and took our seats. Erus was seated two seats behind me. I watched as Mr. Laglace quickly shuffled through papers and shook softly. "Okay class it's time to begin!" He said quickly. He jumped up and looked at the class. "You will be choosing partners for a project!" He said. He sent a stack of papers through the rows. "Booker," Erus whispered my name. I turned around, "Yeah?" "Wanna be my partner?" He asked. I nodded and he nodded back.
Erus and I walked out of the classroom together. "Want to come to my place and work on the project?" I asked. He blushed softly and nodded. "Yeah, my place is a mess," he said with a laugh. His laugh is so cute... Erus followed me to my apartment. "Wow, this place is nice," Erus said in awe. I smiled, "Thanks." Erus took a seat on the couch and set his stuff next to it. I sat next to him and turned on the TV. "We can relax a bit before we get started," I said smiling at him. Erus smiled back and watched the TV.
It was around 7:00 and Erus nudged me. "Shouldn't we get started on our project?" He asked. "Yeah, we should," I said getting up from the couch. He got up after me and his arm brushed against mine. I softly blushed and looked back at him. He was blushing too. He looked at me and giggled. "What?" He asked. "Nothing," I replied. He huffed, "What is it?" "You're just cute, that's all," I said blushing. He blushed harder and followed me into the kitchen. We began working on the project and didn't stop until we were halfway done. It was 9:00 when he left. I went to bed at 9:30 and though about him until I fell asleep.
