I woke up to a snail on my face. I sat up, and peeled the thing off my face. I threw it off the roof. On the way down, a bird squawked and snatched it out of the sky.
So much for that analogy...
I climbed down from the hole in the roof into the attic. The dust had seemingly gotten better, sporing into the world during the night. I walked through the attic, painfully bending over because of the low roof. I thought about what Jackson had said last night.
You have four days to get to UCIA, I told myself. Just another thing to worry about in the last 18 days. Technically it was three days now. I had to convince everyone that we had to leave, without hinting that Jackson showed up.
I walked down the small stepladder I had extended last night back into the house. Through the hallway I went, searching for everyone. I decided to go for the living room first. TK was the only one there, sitting on the couch, seemingly lost in thought.
"Where's everyone else?" I asked.
"Somewhere in the bedrooms." He said, without looking at me.
"You okay?" I asked, edging closer.
"I'm fine... just processing things."
"Isn't that what we all want to do." I said, turning around. I stopped, and turned back. "Don't move... There's a meeting in a couple minutes."
"Wasn't planning on it."
I walked out of the room, and down the hallway again to the bedrooms. I flung one of the doors open, to find Griffin, and Miranda kissing. Griffin saw me out of the corner of his eye, and pulled away quickly. He walked off.
"Meeting's in five minutes." I said.
"Yeah." Griffin said, face red.
"Totally."Miranda said, following him.
I smirked, and left. The next bedroom's door was locked.
"Jordan! Open up!" I yelled, banging on the door.
Suddenly, the door started pounding back at me. Someone... or Someones was on the other side. Wow... that sounded grammatically incorrect... someones...? Never mind, I don't have the time for this.
The first thought was that Jordan had gone berserk. THEN, I saw her come out of the next room, a hair brush stuck in her hair.
"Who's making all that noise?" She asked.
"I don't know. The door's locked though, and I'm not going to care now. Meeting in two minutes in the living room." I said, tiredly.
"Cool... but it might take more than that time to get the brush out-"
"Just take the brush." I said, facepalming, and walking into the living room.
There, everyone was sitting on one of the couches. The banging had faded to soft pats on the door. They stared at me intently. Suddenly I was nervous. I had never been good at making speeches.
"You see..." I began. Killer. "I got one of our radios working last night with some batteries I found in the house, and started listening. I heard a couple distress calls from down in Pinedale, but nothing big... but on one of the stations, the channel was really weak-"
"And you listened to music?" Miranda asked, perking up. "We haven't heard music in ages!"
"It's only been, like, two weeks!" I said.
"SO?" Jordan said. "How can my a Capella group, 'Screams of Dead Children' rehearse without knowing how real songs sound?"
"You have an a Capella band?"
