Kendal's POV

"Kendal." he whispered, his lips at the edge of her ear. She turned to him, smiling.

"Shane." Kendal breathed, feeling warmth flood through her veins. "I missed you."

He grinned, "I missed you too."

Carefully, he placed his fingers on her eyelids and gently shut them. Then, he leaned forward ever so slightly and kissed her right on the lips.

Kendal felt her heartbeat quicken as she kissed him back. His lips were soft, and tasted like lemon.

Lemon?

Kendal pulled back with wide eyes, and sure enough, Shane was gone.

And in his place, was Cady.

Kendal jerked out of sleep to the sound of the prison bell. She groaned, rubbing her eyes and forcing her muscles to lift her body off the ground.

"Good morning." a voice chortled, and Kendal rolled her eyes when she realized it came from the wall to her right.

"Not today," she hissed, "Just leave me alone for today."

The voice giggled behind the concrete wall, "But then I can't tell you the news. Don't you want to hear the news?"

As much as she hated herself for it, this peeked Kendal's interest. "What news?" she asked.

"Your parents are here to see you." said the voice.

Kendal hugged her body with her own arms, "You're lying to me. You're playing games."

"I'm not lying." the voice replied, anger rising in their words, "Why don't you trust me?"

"You're just a kid living on the other side of this wall. You don't know anything."

At this, the voice fell silent, and Kendal could hear whimpering on the other side of the wall.

Suddenly, Trudy was at the cell door, unlocking it. She wore a strange expression, and Kendal was filled with the overwhelming feeling that she had just overheard their conversation.

Once the door was open, Kendal stepped out and watched as Trudy unlocked the cell to her right.

Kendal strained to see who sat behind the bars, wanting to see the face of her nameless tormentor.

To her surprise, it was a girl. She was pale, with a tiny frame, and freckles all over her body. Her hair was a fiery orange and her eyes an alarming blue.

Silently, the girl stepped out.

"Hello." Kendal ventured.

The girl looked down at her feet.

"I'm Kendal."

"I know who you are," hissed the redhead. "You're the girl who killed my best friend."

Kendal's eyes widened, "Excuse me?"

Without another word, the girl fell into line to head to breakfast. Stunned, Kendal did the same.
