I stood next to McGonagall's desk as her 3rd hour class filed in.
I caught a glance from George who was smiling and pointed at McGonagall. I shook my head no, that I wasn't here because I was in trouble. He looked mildly surprised and elbowed Fred. Fred looked at him questioningly, and George pointed at me. He grinned when he saw me and mouthed "Sucks to be you."
I stuck my tongue out at him and shrugged.
"Once the Hufflepuffs come in, we'll get started," announced McGonagall.
"You have the Hufflepuffs too?" I asked.
"Yes, since many third years have mixed schedules, some houses have classes together."
"Sounds complicated."
"In a way it is."
I rocked on my heels impatiently, tired of standing. At once, the third year Hufflepuffs entered the classroom and took their seats. I spotted Cedric and waved. He smiled and waved back.
"Now before we begin, I would like to introduce all of you to your new classmate. Yes, she may be in first year, but I assure you that her abilities are just as able as yours. I trust you all will make her feel welcome, and won't make her feel any lesser because she is younger than all of you." The whole class began to murmur and Lee pretended to choke in shock.
"Hi I'm Armadi," I introduced myself. "I say that for Hufflepuff's benefit, all the Gryffindors know who I am." I snickered as Lee and the twins whooped while the rest of the Gryffindors laughed and shook their heads.
"Miss Dursley, take a seat there next to Cedric. Wave your hand Mr. Diggory!"
"It's okay Professor, I know who he is." I told her as I began to walk to the empty seat.
"Hello again," I said chirpily as I sat down.
"Why didn't you tell me you were 2 years ahead?" He said awestruck.
"It didn't come up," I shrugged. "Besides, it's just this one class."
"OI MADS! WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL US YOU WERE GOING TO BE IN OUR CLASS?!" yelled Fred.
"Shut up, I'm right next to you," I groaned rubbing my ear. "I forgot to tell you."
"How can you forget to tell us something like this??" George said loudly. "How in the bloody hell are you here anyways?"
"Mr. Weasley that's enough," snapped McGonagall. "Please stop badgering her."
"We're not done," he whispered as he turned back forward.
I scowled at him and looked at Cedric.
"So, what are you guys learning so far?"
"Animal transfigurations," he replied, looking at the board.
"Sounds fun," I said quietly, remembering the halfway rock/dog.
He turned to face me. "Nervous?"
"Somewhat."
He smiled assuringly. "You'll be okay, you've made it this far."
I gave him a small smile. "Thanks."
"So how did you get so ahead?"
I laughed as I remembered. "It still suprises me I got away with it." I told him animatedly about the matches and crickets.
When I was done, he looked a bit envious, but with an amused smile.
"So it was you!"
I gave a sly grin. "First years?"
"Spread the word like wild fire." He held up his hand for a high five--I slapped his hand hard in return.
We didn't have anymore time to talk because McGonagall started the lesson, but Cedric passed me a note.
'Do you get what she's saying?'
I scribbled back a reply.
'Yeah why?'
He read the note and turned red. He wrote on the paper and passed it back.
'I don't.'
I stared at the paper, puzzled.
'Don't what?'
I gave it back to him, but he didn't reply. Then it hit me. I snatched the paper back and scrawled on it.
'You don't understand the lesson do you?'
His eyes skimmed the paper slowly, then gave a short nod.
At that moment, I felt something bounce off on the side of the head--I turned to look in the direction it came from and saw George pointing to the floor. I ducked down underneath the table and saw a crumpled piece of paper lie at my feet. I quickly picked it up and read it.
'Going to mess with the ghost on the the first floor after dinner. Coming?' read George's messy writing.
I gave a low thumbs up. He smiled and went back to his work, or at least thats what it looked like.
I turned back to Cedric who was looking at me curiously.
He ripped another piece of parchment and wrote on it.
'How are you involved with those three?'
I wrote back. 'They're my friends.'
He grinned widely.
'So that means you're trouble?'
I shrugged. 'Everyone says I am.'
He rolled his eyes, but looked pleased. He ripped another piece of parchment.
'Can I ask you a favor?'
I raised an eyebrow suspiciously.
'What is it?'
He hesitated for a couple minutes but finally wrote back.
'Can you tutor me?'
The bell rang loudly, announcing the start of the second hour.
"You sure?" I whispered to him as we got up.
"Yeah, any help is good, even if its from an 11 year old who knows what's going on," he whispered back. "But It'd be better if they were secret sessions." he looked nervously at his friends.
I nodded--I guess that's understandable.
"Sure, just give me a week to catch up okay?"
He looked relieved. "Thanks."
"Meet me at the lake around 5 on saturday?"
He nodded. I waved goodbye. I walked off to the quidditch field where our first flying lesson was supposed to start.
