LIA

"Lia! Come here sweetie!" I heard a raspy voice say on the speaker.

Huh? I didnt do anything wrong. Why am I being called? And that too in the scary-sweet voice that Ms. Mean(thats really her name), the orphanage's headmistress, uses to make you think that you're not in trouble but then chews you out for something you did.

I slowly crept out of my dorm and walked towards the olive coloured room the room that has come to be my second home, while girls in the hallway stared at me and sniggered.

"In trouble again, Lee pee?" I heard someone say. I turned to see Megan, the orphan's very own mean girl looking at me with distaste. "Maybe you should just stay in your room, that way you wont get into trouble, and no one will have to see you."

I was going to say something smart, when the speaker blasted again, "Lia Jonas come to my office right now!" So I gave Megan my death stare and walked towards the headmistress' office.

When I was at the door, Mr. Brunner stopped me and said, "why do you do this to yourself lia? Please try to be a little responsible."

"But I didnt do anything this time, I swear!" I gave him a small smile as he said, "well, be carefull child, she is in a rage today. I hope she does nothing harsh." "To lil' old me? Naw, she wouldn't touch me!" I said as I opened the door.

Have you ever seen an angry gorilla? Well if not, then you are welcome to come to Ms. Shelly Mean's room. About 6.5 feet tall, Ms. Mean has almost the exact features of a monkey. Short black hair, a large mouth and sharp teeth, she can be very intimidating when she wants to. And she always wants to. Especially to me. But today, she looked different.

"Ms. Mean, whatever you think I did, I didn't do it." I said with a shaky voice. "I've done nothing wrong this whole week and-"
"Thats not what I called you for." She interrupted. "You've been adopted."

Okay. I did not expect that. "Adopted?" I stammered. "But... who...?" "Would adopt such a devil like you?" She snarled. "Well, as hard as it is to believe, the world outside the orphanage doesn't know about your antics. The woman adopting you is waiting near the reception, so pack your bags and leave."

I was too stunned to move. Adopted? Me? Why? Ms. Mean gives a description and a picture to every parent coming to adopt, and no doubt she would describe ma as Satan's child. Almost all the major pranks and forbidden stuff was led or done by me.

Why would anyone want to adopt me?My thoughts were interrupted by Ms. Mean, when she said, "whaddya waiting for? Go pack and leave!" So I ran outside.

"What did you get?" Mr. Brunner asked me as I came outside. "Toilet cleaning? Scraping gum? You look pale, my child. Sit down." He made me sit on a bench nearby.

Mr. Brunner was about the only one who was nice to me in the orphanage. He was a middle aged guy in a wheelchair. He had thinning brown hair, a scruffy beard and a frayed tweed jacket, which smelled like coffee. He doesn't sound like much fun, but he was the only one who treated me like a normal human being.

I really would miss him. He was like a second father to me. And that meant alot as I've never seen my father. My mom used to say he went out on a journey but never came back. Oh God, my mom. I haven't thought about her at all since the accident. She would be so dissapointed in me now.

I saw a her face flash before my eyes; her brown hair and eyes, her kind smile. She wad telling me something, but for some reason she sounded like Mr. Brunner. I blinked, and the image was gone. Instead, I saw Mr. Brunner in front of me, shaking my sholder and shouting, 'Lia!'
