Chapter One: Guardian Angel

She doesn't see me? Does she? Can she see me watching over her? Does she know how much I love her by staying with her and not going to heaven?

So, you wanna know about Emily?

Emily is, er, was my twin sister. I'm her sister, Emma.

She passed not too long ago after some idiot rammed her while we were on our bikes; she pushed me out of the way...and let herself fall off the cliff. The doctors said she died on impact but it didn't make me hurt any less, she died for me because I was an idiot and hadn't even seen that damn car.

She was the older one, by twelve minutes but unlike other twins she never hung it over my head. She was so sweet.

We looked alike in almost every way. Both of us had black ringlets like Mom, and pale skin from Daddy. But whereas I had taken Dad's grey eyes, she took Mom's pale angel blues.

Whereas I was the punk rocker and dressed so, she was modest and liked swirls and flowers on all of her clothes.

I usually made A's and the occasionally B in Algebra, but Emily always made straight A's, when I asked her how she does it, she would just smile and say: "I don't really know, I guess I'm just really smart."

I had a smart mouth and it was big enough to accommodate for the fact that Emily was a pure angel and could do no one any harm even if she tried and you gave her a chainsaw.

Emily was the chef between us, she loved cooking and Mom let her cook the meals of the house since Emily woke at the crack of dawn every morning to watch the sun rise.

I was really torn when they found me, cut and bruised from being pushed and crashing into a large rock with my bike. I hadn't worn my helmet so my forehead was bleeding and I had been holding my arm, while it bled near the multiple breaks in it.

She's crying again, please don't cry Emma! I did what I did for you! I did it so you would live! So you could be happy! Move on, leave me behind! I left for you to be happy! I want you to be happy!

I forcefully wiped my eyes, and looked up from my knees in the corner of the bathroom. I shook my head, angrily and screamed in frustration as I sobbed harder. She didn't deserve to die; I thought as I opened our shared medicine cabinet and snatched the pain pill bottle, a sad smile growing on my face.

I heard Mom call my name but her voice fell on deaf ears as I took three times the recommended amount. Almost enough to kill me, but more than enough to numb me for what I was about to do.

I opened the cabinet below the sink and my face hardened with determination, as I gripped the bag of cheap razors. Emma had bought them a month before she died, saying she had to keep her legs free of hair for the upcoming summer.

"I love you, Emily." I said as I tore it open and grabbed the first one, breaking it on the hard sink, making the blades fall out and scatter on the floor. I grabbed all three, and just as Mom screamed for me to answer, I cut the main veins in my arm, the pain pills doing their job and keeping me numb as I made twelve lines in my left.

I was on my eighth in my right, when Mom found me and started throwing herself at the bathroom door, trying to break it with her weight. She called for Dad but I told myself she was too late as I saw blood gush from my arms like someone had just drenched them in red Kool-Aid.

Emily loved Kool-Aid....

I felt sorrow swell in me again and I moaned and then with moving sluggishly from severe blood lost, I threw myself over and into the bath tub, it was full of hot water, scented with Emily's favorite lavender beads and bath soap.

I let it fill my nose with no resistance as I tried to drown myself. I'm coming, Emily, I thought. I won't let us be separated ever again. Never ever, never again.

I felt the black of death creep over me as I lay dying, and I saw the water turn completely red with my blood. The door finally broke as something white shined in my eyes. I thought it was the lights but then Emily was standing behind Mom as she reached for me.

I felt my eyes widen slightly and I coughed, and suddenly my body tried to fight death. Emily's blue eyes were red and her pupil was slanted like a snake's. Her skin was paler and seemed shallower, a small splatter of blood on her cheek and her pastel pink flowered sweater and white shorts were the only hints of her gruesome death.

"No, Emma," she pleaded. "Don't leave Mommy and Daddy yet! They need you! I need you to stay!" Her hair flew up as she screamed, "Do as I say for once, damn it!" she yelled and the lights in the bathroom suddenly went incredibly bright before exploding, sending glass everywhere.

I heard Mom and Dad scream as it happened and I was the only one who saw Emily's terrified expression just before everything went dark.

I was coughing then, above the water and alive, Mom holding me in her arms and crying. I blinked as I realized I was the only one who heard Emily's sniffling in a corner.

I'm sorry, Emma. But I was so scared. I got so scared, I broke the lights. I'm sorry, forgive me.

I blinked as tears pricked at my eyes. I sobbed and Mom held me closer. "I'm so sorry; I never meant to scare you. I just wanted to see you again. We've been together forever; I don't like suddenly feeling alone." I said, and Mom shushed me softly and kissed my watery face.

"It's okay, Emma." she said, rocking us slowly so I would feel better. Mom always knew what to do. "Emily's with us, she's our guardian angel and always will be."

"Yes," Emily said and I saw her stand up, "I sold my soul to stay with you guys forever. I'm not an angel, Emma. I'm a demon and," her red eyes blinked and I saw black insignia over her eyelids. "I will always watch over you."
