It had been a long time since they had stopped somewhere. Stacy could hardly breathe because of the wind blowing past her in very high velocity. Apparently her guess of that guy bringing a car to pick her up was immediately proved wrong when she was asked to put on the helmet which he had offered. She was initially freaked out at the idea of a bike ride but eventually agreed. She had been clinging unto him as if her life depended on him. Stacy always hated bike rides.
Eventually Stacy could smell salt water in the air and realized where he'd taken her to. It was one of her favorite hangout places with Mary during the vacations. She had visited the beach long time back so she felt herself putting on the most amazing smile on her face .
The bike halted at the parking lot. Stacy softly slid down the bike and waited for her Unknown friend to lock his bike. He took the helmet from her hand , kept it on the handle and finally looked up at her. He gave a big smile and remarked,"So Stack , hey this is Stephen."
Stacy nodded at it. She hardly knows anyone in school as she has left it a few months ago. Her blank expression had an effective disappointment drawn on his face. He looks out to the beach and then suggests, " Mind if we talk in the beach and not in this not-so-private parking lot?"
" umm.. Okay"
Stacy followed Stephen to the beach. After a few seconds of walking , he sat down with a thud on the sand and patted the space next to him for Stacy. She sat there keeping a good distance between the two. The scene was beautiful out there- the sun was setting and the sea water looked like gold . Both of them sat there silently for a while until Stephen decided to speak up.
" So Stack..."
"Stacy ..it's Stacy Catcher."
Stephen's eyes widened at that. It was probably the first come back line she ever gave to him and his lips set up to a full grin.
"Stack is much more fun to remember. I'll call by that."
Stacy rolls her eyes and retorted ," Apparently my mom did not name me so that in future I'll be called by that name."
Stephen chuckles a bit at her irritation and then continues to say," Are you sure you know me cuz your reaction wasn't that appealing you know." . He wriggle his eyes cockily.
" Umm... no I don't know you."
" You seriously don't know Stephen Linton ?" , he slightly put an emphasis on his last name.
Well , his intention was well suited because as soon as he said his name, Stacy eyebrows shoot up. She now realized who he is . He's Stephen Linton- the bad boy of the high school, the king of parties and the sex God on whom girls drool on. Well Stacy did that too. One cannot help it . But why is he acting so different from what he had been behaving this morning? And it all the more surprises her that he's at present sitting with a girl who is absolutely not of his type of liking.
Her silence was enough to make Stephen realize that she must be having some questions going on in her mind. So he looks at her with deep concerned eyes and said ,
" Well let's come to the point. I'm sorry for my behavior in the hospital cafeteria. I really shouldn't have behaved like that with you , I was just pissed off with stuffs and deliberately hurt you. Can you forgive me , please?"
"So you brought me here just to say this? I don't think so", sarcasm was filled in the tone .
Stephen looked shocked. He couldn't believe that she already has predicted what he wanted to do but restricted not to. Yes he wanted to tell her something more than sorry. He clears his throats and continues,
"You're right I took you here to tell you something. Listen there are many patients like you suffering from loss of parents. Stack do you even realize being a wreck and not listening to your own needs will guide you nowhere. Learn to love yourself. Your break down today morning was a complete kick on my brain bringing me back to my senses."
"How come you knew my name and phone number without asking me for it?"
Stephen scratched the back of his neck awkwardly ." Umm.. I a-actually took your number from the patients register."
"That must have been a tough job."
Suddenly her phone buzzes announcing that there's a message. Stacy took up the phone and frowned .
Mary: where are you Stacy ? I'm worried. With whom have you gone out? I've called all your known friends and you're not there either. Where the hell are you? Call me up ASAP.
Stacy rolls her eyes. She's definitely not gonna call or text her right now. She's going to meet the fate later. She immediately turns her attention back to the gorgeous boy sitting by her but to her surprise he's already staring at her. Curse those eyes, they're so attractive.
"Is this girl your girlfriend?"
Taken aback by the question Stacy asked him squinting her nose," Argh no she's my best friend."
"She's totally crazy about you."
" She has a crush."
"Does that really matter?.. There can be more than one crush at a time."
"She's just my best friend."
"Hope so."
Stacy looked at him in a bit irritated way . He waved both his hands in the air and said ," Fine I surrender. " Stacy pulled out a big smile .
"Be always like this. It kind of suits you." , saying so Stephen winked at her.
Stacy couldn't help blushing.
