halloween bash, 8:23pm
Noah had his arm around Ree, introducing her to the friends she never knew he had. Ree wore her Katniss Everdeen costume. Noah was in his zombie one, they didn't match at all but Ree didn't care.
She wasn't in the best mood and it was all because of him. Brent. She couldn't sleep last night knowing her best friend was in love with her and how she couldn't have noticed. It was something she never thought about.
"Babe, I know you're kind of upset about that little fight but I need you to loosen up." Noah tried to cheer her up. It wasn't working. His friend had already pulled him away right after his first try and he didn't hesitate to leave.
Kara had already began making her way over to Ree. Kara was the only one Ree told the full story to, things she wouldn't dare tell Noah. Kara came over for sappy movies, ice cream and cookies that night. A special sleepover that reminded her,Reminded her of how much she missed him so soon. Reminded her of how she felt the same way.
"You okay?" Ree shook her head frantically as a no, trying to find a way not to spill tears. Kara hugged her tightly, leading her to the dance floor.Ree stood stiff in the middle of hyper jumpy teenagers. "I don't want to dance, Kara."
"Pleaseee, it's our favorite song!" Kara whined with a contagious smile. "You'll feel way better."
She looked everywhere and anywhere before she replied, "I doubt it but I could never back down on Fergalicious." They both laughed, dancing to the music.
Ree began to grow tired and excused herself for some water. She sat down on the barstool, chugging down the whole cup.
As she turned, she spotted Noah going upstairs. Ree wanted to spend some time with him, since he said we need some us time. So she followed him.
Her heart stopped once she got to the final step. He wasn't alone. "You have got to be kidding me." Noah stopped shoving his tongue down the girl's throat, trying to find words to say.
"It's not what it-no, I'm sorry. I wasn't sober."
"So you're sober enough to tell me sorry? Like hell it matters."
"Wait." He tried to touch her. She winced at his attempt and backed away.
"Don't even try." Ree rushed back down the stairs. She didn't cry because she was crazy about Noah. She didn't cry because she wanted the relationship in the first place.
She cried because all she wanted was Brent. And the fact that she had no idea on how to get him back, hurt.
A scream blasted through the speakers. The crowd pushed heavily to the front stage, dragging her along with them. She rolled her eyes at the crowns on the table.
It was time to crown the haunted lord and lady of the night. Useless she thought.
"We're proud to announce that the haunted lord and lady of the night is," A drumroll began. She turned to leave. "Ree Parker and Brent Western."
Ree muttered profanities under her breath. Wrong timing. Everyone cheered wildly for them both as Brent was already on stage.
She was shaking, wishing the ground would swallow her and let Alice take her to wonderland. Brent didn't spare her a glance with a crown on his head.
The boy crowned her as well. "As tradition, your lord and lady will have a special dance. Are we ready?"
No. But the crowd thought otherwise. The boy lead both of them down the stage, his huge frame separating them both.
And damn did she thank God for that. His heart sunk knowing he'd have to face her. Everyone had cleared the floor, leaving them in the middle as the center of attention.
Brent was mad. Mad at her. Mad at her because she didn't notice. Because he thought she didn't care. But she did.
He let out his hand, she took it as he pulled her closer to his taller body. Ree felt warmth all of a sudden, she felt at home but with uneasiness.
People were quiet. They knew what the both of them never knew. The whole school knew the status of their relationship, all thanks to Kara's camera and vlogs.
Ree was tired of being so apart from him. Being so closed off and fake around each other.
"I need to tell you something," He didn't respond and that pushed her to the edge. "But the only way to get you to listen is when everyone does."
She backed away from him and took the microphone nearby. He was startled and yet again confused.
"Uh, hi. I'm Ree Parker and I just want to tell everyone here how stupid I was for ending up with the wrong guy. I never knew what was best for me and I still don't,
"But there was a special someone who somehow in one twisted way or another kept my head straight. He's smart, funny and cute when he's angry. I mean seriously that's AMAZING, who looks cute when they're angry?"
The audience burst into laughter. Brent had a wide smile on his face. At least she was getting somewhere. Ree strolled towards him with a smile.
"And I'm so happy that the haunted lord which is Brent Western is the one I'm in love with."
Brent was having a minor seizure along with a chicken dance. The boy silently took the microphone away, noticing her nervousness.
Ree had never been so scared in her life. "You were hot," Was all Brent could spit out at the moment.
They both laughed. He held her hand and brought her closer. "Plus, I love you too. Wait, you already know that. Ugh, stupid."
She giggled. "Just shut up and kiss me."
And he did.
